I don't buy DLC. Ever. So what does this mean for my ME3 new game?

Zaeed? Kasumi? Liara becoming the [spoiler here]? Arrival?

I didn't play any of these. I'm never going to play any of these until they start handing them out for free or in a big package deal. So what happens to my game at the start of ME3? One of these was even apparently critical to the beginnig narative of ME3.

Why are you so stubborn? It's great extra content... they're not just going to hand it out for free.

There will probably be a re-cap early in the game, im betting Arrival will be the only one mentioned in that. When you talk to Liara she'll probably update you on the events of LoTSB.

It's probably like Dragon Age 2, where the game will simply ignore the DLC irrelevant to the storyline and you'll get a pre-determined result of the most important DLC, if you skipped it that is.

Don't worry about it, LoTSB and Arrival don't have any big choices that could affect the storyline, Overlord might but I doubt it'll be relevant to the storyline.

Then you get a default ending. I don't have any of the ME1 DLC, and I've heard references to those events via the galactic news.

All that means is you've got less control over the events than those of us who did buy whatever DLC do.

Not everyone is a cash cow. Also im sure im not the only one, many just loathe the concept of DLC.

What happened to the good ol' Expansions?

Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival are considered to have happened to Shepard even if you didn't play them. Simple as that.

Well Liara isn't the SB anymore (probably Feron took over), so if you never helped her she probably got the info from somewhere else and took him down alone, problem solved. Zaeed will be around the galaxy, doing his stuff - You might bump into him on a sidemission, so if you had him in ME2 the dialogue may change depending on that. Overlord I think will be skipped, Kasumi, well I don't think Kasumi will play any significant role in ME3.

This. If you're looking for an equivalent scenario, Mass Effect 2 assumes ME1 happened, even if you did not actually play the game. ME2 instead will choose default choices for your Shepard. You're actually in a better position with the dlcs because most of Shepard's decisions/dialogue are purely RP, and most of the storyline has one outcome.

By that same token, I could what happened to simply making a sequel?

I like dlc (particularly ME2 dlc) because it shortens the time I must wait in order to access more story-content. It's almost similar to the mentality between the Half-Life episodes.

I'm typically the same way but I got a free gift card that I didn't need so I used it on points card and bought a couple.  They were exactly what I feared they would be and I've regreted it. As far as me3 I suppose they'll use a importer and in game sequence (like me2 trip to freedom's progress)

I greatly dislike DLC though.

Well Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival are pretty relevant for the story!
Atleast try those, I'm not a "money cow" aswell but those, plus Overlord and Kasumi deserved my money.

Zaeed and Hammerhead were free, I wonder why you even mentioned Zaeed there oO

There are two possible outcomes. One, it just assumes the decisions that you made and figures you've met Kasumi and Zaeed and finished the LOTSB, Overlord and Arrival DLCs. Or the comic that is included with ME3 will (Just as Mass Effect Genisis did) fill you in on the DLC and let you make some decisions. Either way, I advise you to buy DLC. Kasumi and Zaeed are great characters and all the DLC for ME2 is splendidly done =)

If I was supposed to get those for free, then no one told me about it.

Thanks to some of the other posters for their answers.

From what I recall the only one they've said Shepard deals with no matter what is Arrival. I think for LotSB they are having it that Liara did it on her own.

They weren't exactly free, their part of the collector's or digital deluxe edition.

I guarantee an Ultimate Edition is going to be released sometime this fall. That's where you should go. Otherwise, not much choice for you. The two most important DLC's are Arrival and LOTSB, and both of them will be assumed to have been completed in ME3 anyway, so...

It is going to be a bit of jump for people who haven't played the DLC, or been spoiled as to what happens in them.

So Shepard's girlfriend is what now?? And my goody two shoes Paragon killed how many people????

Ah, well that answers that. I wasn't supper excited about ME2 so I waited a little while to pick it up and got the regular PC version.

Just buy the DLC. Some of it is fantastic, especially shadow broker.

He may have bought the games used.

It would be hypocritical for anyone who defends the idea of buying DLC to then criticize someone else for not buying them. It's the player's money, the player can decided how s/he wants to spend it, or not.

As for LotSB, I'm interested to see if that *spoiler* that happens to Liara happens without Shepard's help if you don't play it. That could have an interesting effect on their relationship.

I don't understand why you feel so entitled. Why should these add-ons be free? Name one product where add-ons are free? You can't go to mcdonalds and order extra sauce without an addon fee. I doubt a missions, that probably takes months of development is going to be free.

There's an argument to be made about the price versus gamelength. But you're acting like a spoiled brat expecting it "Free".
