I don't buy DLC. Ever. So what does this mean for my ME3 new game?

"Shepard pretty much had to stop the Reapers in the Arrival DLC event, but we handle it differently in ME3 if you didn't play it."

Zaeed and Hammerhead are free for everyone with new game copy (not used).

Interesting. I don't recall any claim code in the box.

There should've been one, but many boxes come with the code missing. That happened in my case so I contacted EA support through their chat service or whatever and they activated the Cerberus Network for me.

But in my opinion, you're not really missing much without it.

There's a great answer! Thank you.

They make all this optional stuff and they give you all these extra choices and missions to play if you're willing to pay. That's all well and dandy if you view it as a good thing (I don't). But I didn't do anything wrong. I didn't spit in anyone's face by opting out on these options.

We were given this "option" and I want to know how it's going to play out in the start of my game. It's simple enough.

This is indeed a completely fair view of things.

For the record, I believe there will be a recap at the start of ME3 explaning all the events of the previous two games and the relevant DLC.

Which is essentially what I and a few others have basically stated since the first page :)

Either way he's going to be on trial for.... something.  Most it'll change is a dialogue choice here or there i'm assuming.  I'm guessing the ME3 comic or something like that maybe to fill people in

Yeah, that's a tough place to be. We plan for "Played, Importing" and "Didn't Play." No way to write for "Played, no import."

Yeah, but he had sources. You need to appreciate that level of pedantry. I know I do. ^_^

The difference would be the legitimate question concerning the ME3 New Game.

Wow. I always knew the forums could be a bit...contentious, but really? Really?

No one's complaining about DLC, it's just a question on how ME3 will play out if you didn't have the DLC.

Either this is a massive reading comprehension fail, or people really need to get the twist out of their respective undergarments.

I think it's both. At the same time. (except for those not wearing undergarments)

Their lack of undergarments is...disturbing.

Given how extreme the events of Arrival are, I don't think it's just as simple as saying that they're assumed to have happened.

Starting the game by telling people that their character, unknown to them, wiped out a star system and is on trial for mass murder is a bit problematic.

What other option do they have, exactly? What's going to be the explanation of how the Alpha Relay was destroyed and that particular excursion stopped, since apparantly the only people that knew about it were indoctrinated? And they can't just say it never happened, since it screws up the timeline - the Reapers would have arrived sooner and Shepard wouldn't even be on Earth.

If you've made the choice not to buy Arrival, that's your perogative, but the events still happened. Deal with it.

It's not a problem for me, because I'm thoroughly spoiled.  But I'd guess most people who are importing from ME2 probably don't even know the Arrival DLC exists, so Bioware will need to write things carefully if it's not going to be a major WTF moment for a lot of people

Well, Jack Bauer isn't supposed to be your character.  And, I'd guess, major character defining moments don't happen in minor little side elements outside the main show.  So it's not entirely the same.

Isn't the trial a fine way to recap the DLC events? Arrival, anyway.

Not everyone is a cash cow. Also im sure im not the only one, many just loathe the concept of DLC.

What happened to the good ol' Expansions?

DLC is more cost effective & profitable for the developer / publisher than traditional expansions.

I for one support devs making DLC (content DLC anyway... Shadow Broker, Overlord, Kasumi, Arrival, etc).. it's actually more valuable to me as a consumer... I don't need to plop down 30-40 bucks for a full expansion and can instead choose the bits and pieces of content that I want for $5-8 each instead.... as a consumer, I much prefer this method.

It's apparantly not that much of a problem, 'cause that's exactly what's happening.

Zaeed? Kasumi? Liara becoming the [spoiler here]? Arrival?

I didn't play any of these. I'm never going to play any of these until they start handing them out for free or in a big package deal. So what happens to my game at the start of ME3? One of these was even apparently critical to the beginnig narative of ME3.

honestly im the same way.its horse crap they pull over us.i got me2 new right when it came out,so i got the cerberus network card stuff.i love having zaeed.family member gave me  1200msp as a gift long while ago.and when i got LoTsB,Overlord and Kasumi they all each were for only 200msp.and traded a game i dont play no more to get enough for arrival.only reason i caved is because me is one of my fav franchises.honestly though its the third game ever i both dlc for.halo map packs i won some contest got points used them for maps..Me1 dlc was Cheap easy enough only 80msp shi7 i downloaded..ME2's DLC way to much content for DLC.most of that had to have been scrapped for the full game and rebundled as dlc.but im truly stubburn when it comes to buying dlc.honestly your not messing much...hell watch gameplay videos off of youtube to deicid if you want to stay away from it or cave in and buy them

Zaeed is free if you bought the game new and registered the Cerberus Network, its part of EA's trying to make people want to buy the game new instead of used.

If you registered the game new for the PC, you can download all the Cerberus Network DLC on the left menu, by clicking on Profile and then Your Registered Game Content.

Edit: Clarified for PC.

Really?

Game On: How would you describe the Mass Effect series to someone who's never played it?
Casey Hudson: To me, it's a huge science fiction universe in the style of the big science fiction properties like Star
Trek and Star Wars, though more targeted at an adult experience. We're trying to create something that's an entire universe people can immerse themselves in, but also something for the mature demographic that wants an adult story. That's why we've take Jack Bauer approach to Commander Shepard [the series protagonist]. We've tried to present you with agonizing choices as you navigate your way through the sequel and built that into a bigger, much darker story.

That was before ME2 came out and he referenced Bauer again during E3...

Oh and outside the main show would include things like '24: Redemption' which was a pre-season 7 tv-movie... you know, kind of like what Arrival is.

Do you think that expansion packs were content that was stripped out of the game too?
