Title says it all except I'm running a solo game with Cleric/Mage and have a multiple stronghold tweak. Just wondering how to defeat the Glabrezu - I avoided it in my game by distracting it with summons and running past to take out the witch (once I'm out of the Glabrezu's sight it doesn't seem to follow if I wasn't the initial target).

But I really want to know if there's a way to kill it with my character, because it doesn't register invisibility or prot from evil.

Cheers for your help!

Dude, you need a +3 weapon to even touch them. Besides, make sure you have Protection from Evil cast on your character and any summons you may have (I believe you encountered a bug there.) Boost your strength as much as you possibly can. You need something around 19 strength with more than decent THAC0, or this will be a VERY long fight!

That was pretty much how I defeated the Glabrezu in Temple District (in the Guarded Compound where you get the Celestial Fury). I cast Strength and Haste on Minsc, and equipped him with the Flail of Ages (the +3 weapon you assemble during Nalia's quest) and a good shield. Then I simply made my party stay away, while the Ranger (and his hamster) beat the Glabrezu all the way to the Ninth Level of Hell!

Try it!

Cleric/mage gets 1 attack per round so this'll be slow going. Does the Glabrezu cast mirror image? Mine do because of SCS2. I'd say cast stoneskin, bless, chant, mirror image, preferably righteous magic or second best holy power, holy might, & improved invisibility & haste, then equip full plate & shield, engage it, cast Bolt of Glory to start, then finish it off with a +3 weapon. Alternatively leave off the armour and spam sunfires, which bypass magic resistance.

Using the spell50 mod, I once cheated Aerie's levels to 50/50, gave her every spell, then cheated my PC's magic resistance up to 100%, and made her drop her spellbook on me. I posted the results on the old forum so they're lost, but basically loads of divine spells bypass magic resistance. Most arcane spells do not.

What level are you?

Going mano-a-mano won’t be my first choice against it but ‘Tenser's Transformation’, ‘Righteous Magic’ & the Slayer all pushes the odds back to your side... I agree that FoA is the weapon of best effect for this task, regardless; Skelleys with ‘Strength of One’ won’t go astray.

The Potty 1 is spot on about divine magic being more than it first appears... Many Cleric spells do less pure damage than their arcane equivalents but have secondary effects that don’t always stand out eg. ‘False Dawn’ only damages undead but doesn’t break stealth so I like to use it to turn undead like the Sea Zombie Lord (Sahuagin City) hostile so that my ‘Blade Barrier’ will harm them.

Sorry, getting off the topic a'bit but IMO the best thing a Cleric/Mage has going for her is the ability to load ‘Bolt of Glory’ into ‘Chain Contingency’ for instant firing.

I hope my kensai lives to see Grond0's c/i try that little gem out.

The Potty 1 has given some excellent suggestions.

@PicklePepperPiper - I have never seen a Glabrezu cast Mirror Image (don't know about mods though)! Besides, if you have cast Protection of Evil on yourself and your summons, then the Glabrezu is not supposed to cast ANY spell at all! :)
