Skyrim's gonna suck badly. [/expectationmanagement]

As much as I don't want to believe this. I can't help, but feel skeptical. It seems almost too good to be true much less able to live up to the expectations.

Here's to hoping I'm wrong.

I just have to question all the hate for DA2, I mean yes it's not DA:O, but similarly DA:O isn't Baldurs Gate. To hate it just because it isn't a flat out RPG, gave you no choice in the outcome, didn't care what you did during origins etc just seems unfair. It's a good action/adventure game, with a reasonable story and plenty of options. Now on with the dissapointments:

-Fable II - Because it didn't improve on the original and fudged the magic system.
-Crysis - Because for me it just seemed to be too much "ooooh look at the pretty graphics" and too little game design.
-GTA:SA - Yes it was massive and had lots of options, but the draw distance was pathetic and the shooting was rubbish and It just didn't have "something". I can't really describe it but it just wasn't as good as GTA3 or Vice City.
-GTA4 - I can forgive everything except the driving, in the quest for realistic physx they lost fun for me.
-MGS2:SoL - Too much metaphysical nonsense ruined what was otherwise an impressive game.
-SW:Attack of the Clones - Words cannot describe the pain completing this was.
-Black & White 2 - Took what was a great idea and a reasonable game and downsized it to a simple choice, Be Evil or Die. [That could just be that I sucked tho]
-CoD:MW2 - Online insanity aside, the single player mode was so short it was ridiculous [4hrs and I'm not even that good] and why in the name of Arkay can't I lean. I mean seriously your telling me a veteran spec ops soldier is going to walk out around cover, blind, to see what's down the street. Instead of simply sticking his head out a sec and ducking back in. [Deep Breath]
Hmm I just slated that after asking why you all hate DA2, I think I shot myself in the foot there.

Everything gameplay-wise was such a chore, and I hated the combat.  It is so difficult that you can't get around dealing with the combat, even on Casual- there's no way to blow through it to see the story.

I was going to say.  :D

Expectation plays a big part when you're talking about disappointment.

Either Oblivion or Deus Ex: Invisible War - I enjoyed their predecessors so much and the sequels were gut-wrenchingly inferior, imo. Though Oblivion can, at least, be improved with mods.

Those would be my exact same picks for the exact same reason. I'd also even add the "but Oblivion is pretty fun with mods" bit, too.

Are you a long lost twin or something?

:P

I keep telling you there's a mod for unlimited blocking. Also, they made easy easier in the prologue.

The fanboy in you just couldn't resist.

@slimgrin- I'll wait until lots of stuff is patched, and I'm very, very bored, and maybe try it again.

Mass Effect 2. No, really. Mass Effect 2.

Mind you, I DID get it for free after registering my copy of Dragon Age 2, but I was told it was a RPG. I start up the game and find a third-person shooter. I died twice on the second mission just because I couldn't figure out how to turn the film grain effect off so I could see.

Sorry, guys, false advertising.

(Feel free to take that with a small caveat: I STILL haven't gotten to play the original Mass Effect, so I had no idea what the h377 I was getting myself into...)

Mass Effect 1, 2, and a cute N64 game called Jet Force Gemini are the only pew-pew games you can make me play. Hate shooters. Loathe. Abhor. Those three games are the only ones I can play, and enjoy. I'll likely add ME3 when the time comes, so long as they don't do something mean like off Thane, or shove him into a corner where you see him once.

Most disappointing games for me:

Alundra 2: Never played 1, I know, I know. 2 was just boring and boring and...more boring.
Grandia 2: ...again, boring. Mediocre. I hear the first was great. No way to play it now, unless it's on PSN?
FF13: I'm sorry, but reading your SE-version of the Codex shouldn't be a necessity to understand a lot of what's going on. It should be there to flesh out a world, not be a main mode of exposition. Also, corridors. And you made Carbuncle into a clown looking travesty. As a summoner of 5+ years from FFXI, I cannot forgive you, SE. :P Redeeming features: I liked Light and Snow.
KotOR 2: Not so much because the game was bad, I did enjoy it, but because what it could have been was so very, painfully obvious. And what it could have been was amazing. What it was, was okay at best. Lost potential bothers me more than potential never there.

@praetor_alpha- wow... I'm really surprised anyone could even mention Bioshock as an RPG at all. Sure it has a couple skimmed RPG features, but seriously, the game is, and was only marketed as, an FPS. Still kinda weird that you heard of it first as an RPG.

@LordGordy666- Aww! What was wrong with Dead Rising? :( I loved that game, as well as the sequel

@Addai67- I seriously hope you're wrong. This is the last game I'm putting faith up-front in.

@MagnusValkerion- I felt that Fable II improved vastly on Fable 1... differences in opinion, plus I didn't mind the changes to the magic system, but then again I thought Fable 1 sucked so I felt like everything was improved.

Star Wars The Force Unleashed - Because Star Wars is not God of War or Devil May Cry goddamnit! Bring back Kyle Katarn!

Ninja Gaiden 2 (Xbox 360) - Real difficulty is good. Fake difficulty is BAD. And getting your ass handed by cheap design is not cool.

Alpha Protocol - A great idea let down by horrible execution. Such a shame, as I really liked the characters and story.

Metal Gear Solid 4.... I wanted so badly to love it but over hour long cut scenes did it no favors.
Not to say it was a bad game. Sneaking around is still as fun as ever and as always the boss battles are the best in the business but the cut scenes dragged on and on and half of them were about stuff I already figured out thank you very much. We really didn't need half of them.
I guess with Snake Eater some of the quality was bound to drop as that game was damn near perfect but 4 felt like a chore just as much as a game.

Also Bioshock is not an RPG no matter how you spin it... Like the people who call Zelda an RPG just cause they can...  It doesn't work like that its too awesome to be pigeonholed into such a snobby genre.

I don't think that I will ever be as dissapointed with a game as I am with God of War 3 -_-  GOW 1 & 2 are absolute MASTERPIECES :wizard:  But I haven't even conquered GOW 3 yet on account of how I lost interest in the main character and his idiotic quest for revenge<_<  i have a saying, " True power is not displayed by what forces one can unleash, but rather by what forces one can put on a leash."

" So Kratos... What your telling me is that you want to kill Lord Zues and anyone that get's in your way because you don't like the fact that he did his job and reigned you in?! Well gee : The last time I checked part of the job desciption of being "King of the Gods " :innocent: requires one to keep the other Gods in check and insure that no God oversteps thier bounds... "

The only thing that I can say in The Ghost of Sparta's defense is as The God of War, he presides over all wars and that would have to include the greatest war imaginable, which would be a War of the Gods : Which he helped bring about. But inspite of that the game is still stupid and doesn't live up to the granduer and wonder the first two  acheived. And I can't stand it when Hollywood Writers and others decide to play loose and fast with established mythology:pinched:  The Greek Gods were known as " The Undying Ones " The defining difference betwixt them and us was that we could die and they could not. But Kratos can just kill them as if they were normal people, its absurd. His adventure this time around seems more like the 'dreams of a madman'  than  the kleos of a great hero...

Post Script : The best thing about GOW 3 is this version of " Rage of Sparta " www.youtube.com/watch

Homefront. So much hype, so many promises and cool features. And none of it game. I've seen side scroller games that were less linear and longer. I beat that game in 4 hours and not one of those hyped features were anywhere to be seen, minus in a multiplayer game mode that sided heavily with the sniper classes.

Poor homefront I've been meaning to play it for months are you telling me I should just go ahead and uninstall it now.

On a side note I'd like to add the original witcher game to my list of all time dissapointments.

Well yes actually it sounded quite epic from what I'd heard. To be fair I felt it had potential, but there was just so much wrong with it. I never actually finished it, so I could be wrong.

Out of the entire game, there was one really memorable part for me -

At one point, you have to choose between Triss or Shani, and Zoltan and Dandelion force you to get you completely drunk at a bar, then drop you off at either Triss's or Shani's house. While you are still drunk and the screen is blurry, you get yelled at by whichever one you chose.

Loved this scene, for me it made the game great.

=O That's only Act 2 you must have gave up quickyl. I was hooked when I realized noone in the game can be taken at face level. Hell the priest of the Eternal Flame sells kids into slavery and threw his daughter out when she became pregant and now she is a **** in Vizima.

My only problems with Witcher 1 is the combat system which Witcher 2 clearly has changed and the engine. SOOOO much load screens although CDProjekt did a good job using the Aurora Engine.

Story wise I found it fresh and new to see a game that isn't about saving the world or anyone really. You simply want revenge and find out a whole huge political plot to overthrow the King, kill any nonhumans and anything else for a religious group of fanatics. It's dark and gritty and mature.

Ahhhh.... Shani. I missed her in TW2. Although, they did do a much better job with Triss this time around...

There are two types of revenge... You either believe that : " Revenge is a dish best served cold . " or " The best revenge is success :innocent: ."

My problem with Kratos is not just his bloodlust and thirst for vengence. It's the fact that he get's on my nerves... I use to like him : But now I see that he proves how true that old saying is : "When you point your finger at someone else, there are three fingers pointing right back at you." he's constantly going on and on about how petty and pathetic the Olympian Gods are... But he leaves himself out of this equation.:? As if he were some 'gift to humanity '... As its been said, "The unexamined life is not worth living." The Ghost of Sparda refuses to take a look at himself and stop blaming everyone else for his own choices...

- Add on to that, the fact that he was defeated by the Barbarian King but got a reprieve.

-Was easily despensed with by Aries, ( while he was retrieving Pandora's Box ) but once again got a do -over.

-And finally Lord Zues defeats Kratos at the begining of God of War 2, but Gaia brings him back...<_<

Kratos is supposed to be this major BAD ASS but what he comes across as to me is someone who has an uncanny knack for stealing victory from its rightful receiver...  :bandit:It is as though the Goddess Nike herself : Goddess of Victory is on his side...
