The Revenant is a lot more fun, in my opinion, because it is much more challenging to use effectively.

It is your choice. Going to Revenant will be waste of time. Better yet, go for Widow. Mattock+Widow+Geth Plasma Shotgun = WiN
Why will going for the revenant be a waste of time?

if you like raining down hell with power (as a film which I can't figure the name out off says.) "shoot like an american" then the Revenant is an ideal choice.
If you want to have precise firing then the Mattock/Vindicator would be the way to go.

But you should just make a save before the weapon choice and try both.

IF you get used to the Mattlock and then move over too the Rev you may be a bit underwhelmed. The best thing about the Rev is massive fire downrange before having to reload, ie a Light Machine Gun being used like Rambo. This isn't necessarily the "Best" way to play but it can be incredibly fun. If you don't like that style of popping Arush and then charging guns blazing at your enemies spraying flaming ammo, then the Mattock/Widow will be the way to go.

I'll probably use the Mattock and then switch to the Revenant.
Don't do that, especially if you play on insanity. I found Revenant completely useless. You can't kill anything with it. It's only good factor is that it has more ammo.
So, I recommend Mattock. (Better if you won't even choose the whole Revenant, Widow and even Claymore are more useful.)

With the Mattock, you just hit ARush and spam bullets, w/o any consideration to range, enemy type, nothing. No need for headshots, legshots, everything is just as good. You can use the Mattock how ever you want and it'll get you basically the same results all the time.
OTOH, the Revenant is more rewarding, imo, since you use it differently against different types of enemies: up-close vs. reg. enemies (SMG close), area suppresion vs swarms (husks, varren, etc.) and long-close range run'n'gun vs big boss enemies (YMIRs, Praetorians, Arnold, etc.). Incidentally, mastering the Revenant will reveal that it can actually be more interesting and easier to use than the Mattock in certain situations, albeit a bit less powerful overall.

LOL, as I posted and others as well that will only depend on what you want from your guns......
If you want to play Rambo style of soldier with Hardened ARush then take the Revenant.
If you want to play a little more surgical soldier with an overpowered AR used with Heightened ARush then take Widow and use the Mattock.
Decide how you want to play your soldier and choose....no one can tell you what you will enjoy the most.....they can only make suggestions and give info......which we have done.

Revenant is a waste of time because when you have Mattock+Widow+Geth Plasma Shotgun, practically you're one man army on insanity. If you use Energy Drain along with those guns, nothing stands in your way. GPS for shields& barriers, widow against armored targets and Mattock to finish off the rest. If you want ot use Mattock which is not bugged Adrenaline Rush, select one with 70% time dilation. As would any Reaper say, fighting is irrelevant, give up.

Grow a conscience, and not have us choose for you. This isn't a competition, so you won't lose if you decide to pick one over the other.JFarr74 wrote...

Just because the Mattock is broken doesn't make the best choice always the Mattock. If he doesn't happen to like the way it plays with the Widow, then it isn't the best. I have used both, and even have a modded game that gives the claymore, Rev and widow on a Soldier, and the most used gun is the Rev, cause it is fun.
Also of note, ANY ARush breaks the Mattock, and even the Vanguard's slowdown from charge does a bit the same. Just choosing the 70% one actually makes it worse because of the extra bonus you get from damage makes you have to use LESS ammo, the only thing in heck that can limit it.

In terms of looks, I infinitely prefer the Rev. The Mattock looks like an antique (well, it is one).
Also, look up Revenant in a dictionary. It is very likely that this gun is named after Commander Shepard.
I actually prefer the Tempest over both.

I'm playing on Hardcore, and LOVE to use Adrenaline Rush. So which gun would be better for that kind of gameplay?
