Uh oh. Someone said Final Fantasy. Now everyone will think the people asking for hairstyles longer than 1 inch for male Shepard are asking for neon green anime haircuts.

I'm tired of '31 Flavors of Crewcut'. And don't tell me "But it's the military!" I'm pretty sure if I can commit genocide on an entire alien civilization and abandon the Citadel Council to die, the military hairstyle regs fly right out the window.

So now an argument becomes invalid just because we "can't tell you"?

If I remember correctly, in ME1 during the conversation with Rear Admiral Mikhailovich, it's mentioned that Shepard is no longer part of the Alliance military since becoming Spectre.

Shepard was still in the Alliance, Rear Admiral Mikhailovich just was no longer part of his chain of command.

In fact Shepard can even address the Admiral during that conversation by saluting, and then introducing himself as Commander Shepard, SSV Normandy. If Shepard was no longer an Alliance military officer, he would no longer be referred to as Commander Shepard and he wouldn't need to salute.

He also wouldn't be in command of an Alliance warship if he wasn't an Alliance military officer. He might have an Alliance warship assigned to him for his mission, but the ship would be under the command of an Alliance military officer. Sort of how Nihlus was tagging along for Eden Prime, but Anderson was in command of the vessel.

Nah, what everyone is asking for is Sephiroth hair for male Shep. Pretty lame in my opinion.

I'd like to at least get some hair that looks like it would be nice to run your fingers through. There's only a couple of hairstyle options for MShep that I actually like, it's half the reason I only have one male shepard play-through, I can't make one that's different from the first that I want to look at for hours on end

This is a nice option but I'd like a bit more variety, this is the only one I like that isn't a boring old crewcut

DA2 was a sub-par bioware game but it at least had a nice hairstyle for default Hawke. Can we get this level of fluffy hair for our custom M!Shep?

I don't get why people are against it? Just don't make your Shepard have long hair if you don't like it. I swear, people always get on their high horse telling others how they should play the game. This is a single player RPG where you get to decide what you want and what you think is best.

Philosophical question here: Does a decision of a haircut not make the same difference as an answer one might use to a character interaction?

By people saying, "No, YOU shouldn't be able to let YOUR Shepard have long hair," you are essentially saying, "No, YOU shouldn't be allowed to make choices in YOUR game which I don't approve of."

It's just like the people saying that same-sex romances shouldn't be put in the game either because of "story continuity." Well, refer to the problem above; if you don't want it, don't make the choices for it. It's not like you can "accidentally" stumble on to a romantic relationship with the same sex unless you've been working at it.

Give it a rest, people. Grow up, please; you're infringing on the fun of my game with this bigotry.

Loose long hair doesn't really belong in the military.
..of course some of femsheps hairstyles have tied long hair..

I would very much like to change the hairstyle of the default Shepard model. Honestly I can't imagine that would be too difficult to implement.

So.. it seems people don't really care about plot-related things but instead put huge emphasis on the clothes the characters wear, hairstyles and which characters are straight or gay.

Priorities right?

Aside from a few plot holes, the story of ME2 was well executed for a videogame, the customization was not, i don't see what the problem is?
Are you against people being more connected to the character they have created? having more options? or are you just unhappy because people enjoy this aspect of the game instead of focusing on what you want them to focus on?

Upset that people want to play dressup instead of caring about the story, the action, the dialogue, etc? Yes. Yes I am.

What makes you think people don't care about these elements? aren't they what make ME great? just because focus is on another aspect of the game in this thread that surely doesn't mean any of these elements are any less valid does it?
customization is important to me because it makes a game more emmersive, i care more about a character i myself have created, which make me care more about what happens to him and how the story progresses, which makes the story more valid for my experience. If you can't see that then that is your prerogative, i however am full within my right to enjoy this aspect of the game.

And I will join you.  BioWare gets my money before any other game company out there.  precisily because they have a good story including relationships, interesting characters and they give me the ability to play all sorts of different types, female and male, straight and not straight, nice looking and someone only a mother would love. :)

If any one of those options were less, I'd more than likely put BioWare on the don't need to buy first list.  There are lots of games out there, and so far, bioware is the only one who does what they do as good as they do it.

...no.

You're comparing the practicality of having short hair in combat situations to same sex relationships?

Are you freaking kidding me?

One of the original reasons for short hair was to keep lice from infecting everyone.  I'm hoping that by this time, they have found a means to keep lice out of the picture.

I like guys with short hair, but I don't really care if long hair is available.

Now you can say that the Mass Effect series isn't really realistic, but it TRIES to be as realistic as possible for a sci-fi space opera universe. Long hair and a militairy hero just don't go together.

Lets throw Femshep, Ashley and Miranda out the airlock then for not following realism.  <_<

Jep, every Femshep with longer hair than Ash had in ME1 and ME2 is not following realism. Same goes for Ashley in Mass Effect 3.

I really wonder why BioWare decided to turn realistic Ashley into unrealistic wannabe super-model Ashley in ME3. I'm totally not  supporting the decision of turning Ashley into a fake wannabe super-model, but I won't make a huge deal out of it either.

Also, manly space marines and long hair just don't go together. Manly space marines go with short hair, or no hair at all. That's the MANLY way, if you're a space marine that is.

Look at Warhammer 40k. every single Space Marine in w40k has short hair or no hair (with the exception of the God Emperor of Mankind).
Look at Starcraft, every single Terran Marine has short hair or no hair.
Look at Mass Effect so far, every single Alliance marine we've seen so far has short hair or no hair.

Shepard with long hair would be awkward to say the least. The longest haircut that's acceptable for a manly marine in my opinion, is the haircut of Jimmy Raynor (Starcraft 2).

This, anything longer is simply g...*ahum*... unmanly.

I was at a party today and i said the f word (not the curse word). This little kid looked at me and asked what I'd said then somebody said to him "we don't say that." I felt so bad lol.

On topic, I have a question. Is long hair professional? Shepard isn't Rambo or Chuck: some nut just killing people. Shepard is the Alliance, and indeed humanity's, message to the world, saying that the humans can be taken seriously, that they are equals with the other species. And do you really really take people with long hair seriously? I don't have long hair (impossible for me to, unless an afro counts as long hair, and afros are beyond stupid) but I haven't seen anyone who could really be taken seriously as an intelligent person (something a Spectre would definately need) with long hair. In fact most people I've seen with long hair look like...well, hippies.

Not to say all are; that group includes an uncle who's played the piano around the world and currently resides in Las Vegas playing. He doesn't have it (long hair) anymore but boy did he look stupid.

Like anything else, in real life it's going to depend on the person, how they act and what they do with their hair.  My son-in-law has hair he could sit on.  He wears it in a bun, always dresses well and is articulate, smart, computer savy, funny and a gamer.   People take him seriously.

My cousin on the other hand, had long hair he left down and a long beard and looked and dressed like a combination of William Lee Golden from the Oak Ridge Boys and one of the Guist brothers on Swamp People.  You would not want to meet him in a dark ally or on a bright sunlit day.

The op was talking about a short pony tail.  I think that would work along with a bun like Ash used to have.   I've seen a few people suggest long flowing hair, which I think BioWare would trun into plastic, but most of them are talking about something shoulder lenghth like Ash and Mirranda.

This is one of the I won't use it, but don't really care options they could add rather easily.

How do you know? Can you see into the future?... Not many people thought don't ask don't tell would be repealed but here we are. Have some vision and quit being so rigid because you're stuck in the past.

Unless in the future they invent some way so hair does not get in they way when your running or in combat it wil never change.

Military styles do and have changed over the centruies, and unless you have access to Mr. Well's time machine we don't know what the future will be like.  Buns, braids, short on the sides, longer on the back, all would work to keep hair out the eyes.

And again, the problem with this idea is they have let Ash's hair down.  I would like them to have this option for Male/Female Shepard and Ash when they are off duty.  and put their helmet on when they are fighting.

But then again this is Mass Effect, you have woman in combat running around in high heels and skimpy outfits:?. so I guess it doesn't really matter.

Still would seem strange to see male Shepard with long hair though.

I like guys with short hair.  My husband has started shaving it, well he's also losing it but still, I like it and yes, I HATE that they have women in heels running, that's far more irritating to me than having male Shepard with shoulder lenght hair or a bun.   I'd be flat on my face after the first 2 steps.

Would you see Shepard with long hair?  I wouldn't.  I generally skip photos of different Shepards, don't check out you tube stuff very often, and mine all pretty much have the same cut.

This made me laugh.  It's pretty true.  Shepard isn't following an order that higher ups have given.  Shepard makes these decisions including the romancing a co-worker one, if wanted.  Yes, this Shepard wouldn't really care about regs once Spectre statis is achieved.

Actually, I'm just saying that Bio shoudn't waste even five minutes on making these hairstyles. If they magically appeared in your copy of ME3, I woudn't care if you used them or not.

Yeah, what exactly is wrong with hair as long as this? I don't even want "long" hair, I just want some higher quality textres and a couple styles longer than a quarter inch.
