Uh, no. He's a soldier, wouldn't make sense for him to have long, unkempt hair like a hippy bum.

This and even if he's discharged or KIA, he still has the soilder mentality. and will not walk around like a Hippy. (like me)

Honestly guys... nobody cares, I'm playing a game, I want to set my character up as I want. I don't want to hear anything about army and it's pseudo patriotistic bull**** about long hair and hippies having them.

My Shepard would look like Flynn from Bad Company 2, and I know it would look abusrt, it would just be fun.

Some makeup is permitted in the military. Long hair, in the manner the topic suggests, isn't though.

Shepard's not in the military anymore.

As for the military does the alliance forbid long hair? Ash's hair seems to be fine. (Though she like Shepard is a Spectre so it probably doesn't apply for either of them).

Shepard may not be in he military any more depending on your choices, but if you're ever been around any career military veterans, very few things from their time of service change when it comes to their appearance.  Men very rarely grow their hair out again after keeping it short in the military for however many years.

And who's going to cut his hair on the Normandy? Last time I checked there weren't any barbers onboard. Months of flying around in space can make a man look like a Yes roadie.

Some new haircuts would be nice, but they should be the kind appropriate for a military officer to wear.

Really now, long hair just wouldn't look good with Shepard's armor.

I thought there already was?

A friend of mine made a femshep once who was designed to look like Ellen Ripley from Alien 3 and he eventually quit the playthrough because she too ugly.

If femshep can have long hair, why not maleshep?

Females in the military are allowed to have hair to shoulder length and it is must tied in a pony tail or in a bun. unfortunately it a female only rule. most rules regarding hair wardrobe are closely observed during war time.

Well, I can see why people would go for Jack. Bald isn't my thing, but she has a pretty face and I guess some people really find her personality attractive. (I find her fun but not arousing)

Sigourney Weaver though... sometimes she's pretty, sometimes she's average, sometimes she's gorgeous, and sometime's (Alien 3 mainly), she is hideous.

Natalie Portman doesn't count... because with her your eyes are drawn to the face not the hair. Plus everyone remembers all her other hairstyles.

GI Jane was a good movie. Bald isn't bad for soldier girls.

Im more concerned about them uprating the hair textures on both genders first so they lose that plastic appearance.

Looking at how well they have got Ash's hair to look in the footage so far, there should be no excuse for the protagonist who were going to see in every cut scene.

New hair styles would be amazing too of course. I just want my existing Sheps hairstyles to look good first!

I agree. I wish that they would use less hairspray, though.

I remember when ME1 came out reading or maybe hearing a developer interview in which they mentioned that they wanted Shepard to have a real look and fit in the world, that's why there are no extremely beautiful let's say noses in the CC (if you look closely, Mark Vandderloo's nose is much more defined and has a much more beautiful shape than any of the CC other noses) that's a conscious decision on BW's part to not make extremely beautiful/surreal Shepards that wouldn't fit the game world.

The hair is the same, Shepard is a fighter and military or not it's just impractical to wear long hair in combat, it's more understable in women for long term societal reasons but for men not so much.

Having the option would be nice. Besides who said that a Space Faring Military 200 years in the future will have the same rules as the modern day armed forces?
