No, that's dumb.

It's bad enough that there are femsheps walking around wearing makeup.

My femshep likes to look good while gunning down the enemies of humanity.

Yes, and mine had those permenant mascara liner and lip color things done the day she turned of age.  Probably uses perment eye shawdow too.

I would love seeing any of the team who wears heals trip.  No one should be that co-ordinated.  They have to be using some kind of biotic balance power.

Long hair is for pansies with little sex appeal.

She is Cerberfanservice however.  Plus she was born perfect that way, Shep has to earn his hair through skill and merit.

What killing Saren, defeating Sovereign and kicking Harbingers ass isn't enough? :crying:

I think i should suffice i mean, all solid snake had to do was kick big boss's ass defeat metal gear 3 times, and presto insta-mullet.

Shepard seems like he's part of the Alliance in ME3, and even if he isn't Shepard is still a Special-Ops-trained marine (or former marine..hurr durrr..). Marines reaaally do not take kindly to pretty boys with long hair....go play final fantasy or dragon age for your long-haired RPGs.

Dreadlocks are manlier than any buzz-cut.

Long hair looks good and it's ultra-badass.  That's why I grew mine out in real life.

I don't mind it at all, would be cool if you're on the Normandy you wear your hair down/styled, but when in combat/outside Normandy, you have it in a ponytail, bun, bandana, or whatever.

However I don't expect much though from the Unreal Engine and hair. Let alone BioWare giving this any attention :P.

I support this cause 100% though.

The Unreal Engine did well enough for Skorge's dreads in Gears of War 2.

when is the last time you saw a badass with long hair?
never, that's when.

You can't possibly be serious.

General George Washington, The Undertaker, Qui-Gon Jinn, fantasy dwarves, medieval knights, Native American warriors, and that's not even half of it.

For the record, I couldn't give a damn about clipping or hair moving with the wind.  That can be fixed years down the road for all I care.

People seem to think that the only haircut longer than a buzzcut is shoulder-length hippy hair. There is an in-between people. My hair wouldn't be called long but my heads not shaved or anything. I agree that slightly longer hair options for M Shep would be good. More realistic hair in general would be good as well.

He is an Alliance soldier. You are not allowed to have long hair as a safety precaution if you are male. Women must have short hair or wear it in tied up.

Uh, no. He's a soldier, wouldn't make sense for him to have long, unkempt hair like a hippy bum.

This he is a soldier long hair makes visibility hard since your running around all the time you might need some really strong hair gel.

I don't know what it is, but when I think of commando's with long hair, I think of this:

I really can't help it.

"The requirement for hair grooming standards is necessary to maintain

It's got nothing to do with safety precautions - where has there ever been a study that gives this argument any merit anyway? I haven't seen one. They're doing it because they want everyone to look same and not have any individuality, being an army of one and all. It's ridiculously narrow minded and boring. Buzz cuts are the worst haircauts ever.

But then, I hate short hair with the passion of a thousand suns. My hair has never been a safety issue, and even if it were, that's a choice that I have the right to make, military or no.

I think more variation with the short hairstyles would be better. They're not shaving and cutting their hair to that length just because it's fun, you know.

Agreed, i can't see how any one can oppose more options, if you don't like it don't wear it.

Okay so I guess Ash should cut her hair too right? She's in the military and is running around with it free.

Women can have long hair in the military. They just have to put it up in a bun while on duty and in uniform, which is what she did in ME1 and ME2.

Wrong.

While uniformity does play a role, there are also practical reasons involved for requiring short hair. The reason for short haircuts is that they are easier to keep clean and free of parasites in a field enviroment where conveniences most of us take for granted, like showering or taking a bath, are not always available. Disease can be as much an enemy to an army as bullets. Also long hair that flops down in from your eyes would not be a good idea for soldier or Marine for obvious reasons.

It is for similar reasons that facial hair is generally prohibited as well, though with beards you also wouldn't be able to get a good seal on a gas mask. So with facial hair there is the additional safety issue of protecting the soldier or Marine from chemical warfare.

^^Agreed, and to those claiming that the future may have different standards, the soldier's armor now has to double as a space suit and having long hair would make sealing that helmet troublesome not to mention if we were attacked I really don't want to sit around while some guy in my squad ha to put his hair in a bun before we could respond. Women in the military usually do what ash did and just always keep it in a bun however that would limit customization for femshep so they let her keep her hair down.

Spot on. This guy knows what he's talking about.

That said, Shepard with long hair just isn't really realistic. Just like Rambo isn't really realistic either, how cool he might be.

Now you can say that the Mass Effect series isn't really realistic, but it TRIES to be as realistic as possible for a sci-fi space opera universe. Long hair and a militairy hero just don't go together.
