Aside from a few plot holes, the story of ME2 was well executed for a videogame, the customization was not, i don't see what the problem is?IEatWhatIPoo wrote...
So.. it seems people don't really care about plot-related things but instead put huge emphasis on the clothes the characters wear, hairstyles and which characters are straight or gay.

Are you against people being more connected to the character they have created? having more options? or are you just unhappy because people enjoy this aspect of the game instead of focusing on what you want them to focus on?

Upset that people want to play dressup instead of caring about the story, the action, the dialogue, etc? Yes. Yes I am.

What makes you think people don't care about these elements? aren't they what make ME great? just because focus is on another aspect of the game in this thread that surely doesn't mean any of these elements are any less valid does it?IEatWhatIPoo wrote...

customization is important to me because it makes a game more emmersive, i care more about a character i myself have created, which make me care more about what happens to him and how the story progresses, which makes the story more valid for my experience. If you can't see that then that is your prerogative, i however am full within my right to enjoy this aspect of the game.

Now you can say that the Mass Effect series isn't really realistic, but it TRIES to be as realistic as possible for a sci-fi space opera universe. Long hair and a militairy hero just don't go together.
Lets throw Femshep, Ashley and Miranda out the airlock then for not following realism. <_<
Jep, every Femshep with longer hair than Ash had in ME1 and ME2 is not following realism. Same goes for Ashley in Mass Effect 3.
I really wonder why BioWare decided to turn realistic Ashley into unrealistic wannabe super-model Ashley in ME3. I'm totally not supporting the decision of turning Ashley into a fake wannabe super-model, but I won't make a huge deal out of it either.
Also, manly space marines and long hair just don't go together. Manly space marines go with short hair, or no hair at all. That's the MANLY way, if you're a space marine that is.
Look at Warhammer 40k. every single Space Marine in w40k has short hair or no hair (with the exception of the God Emperor of Mankind).
Look at Starcraft, every single Terran Marine has short hair or no hair.
Look at Mass Effect so far, every single Alliance marine we've seen so far has short hair or no hair.
Shepard with long hair would be awkward to say the least. The longest haircut that's acceptable for a manly marine in my opinion, is the haircut of Jimmy Raynor (Starcraft 2).
This, anything longer is simply g...*ahum*... unmanly.

Some makeup is permitted in the military. Long hair, in the manner the topic suggests, isn't though.
Shepard's not in the military anymore.
As for the military does the alliance forbid long hair? Ash's hair seems to be fine. (Though she like Shepard is a Spectre so it probably doesn't apply for either of them).
She has her hair in a bun. That is the preferred and/or mandated hairstyle for females in the military.

Follow this simple train of logic:
A. ME3 Ashley has long hair undone
B. ME3 Ashley is now a spectre
C. (My) Shepard is a reinstated spectre
then...
Spectres do not have rules about this and I can make my hair however I wish. Point is I should be able to do it anyway without people quoting the modern military guidelines.

Ashley's hair is not in a bun (and neither is FemShep's in several styles).
Also we have no idea how the mandates will change in the next few hundred years.
Plus Shepard is a Spectre. I'm pretty sure the alliance can't tell him what to do about his hair anymore.

edit: Are you seriously comparing DADT to long hair? How the hell is that even supposed to compare?

having one thread about hair does not = not caring about story. I for one expect a great end to a great trilogy but why can't we have more options in how we look? In what way is that hurting the story?

No, learn to read. I said that nobody thought the regulation would be repealed and it was. Short hair could easily happen in 150 years time- simple as that.

I was at a party today and i said the f word (not the curse word). This little kid looked at me and asked what I'd said then somebody said to him "we don't say that." I felt so bad lol.
On topic, I have a question. Is long hair professional? Shepard isn't Rambo or Chuck: some nut just killing people. Shepard is the Alliance, and indeed humanity's, message to the world, saying that the humans can be taken seriously, that they are equals with the other species. And do you really really take people with long hair seriously? I don't have long hair (impossible for me to, unless an afro counts as long hair, and afros are beyond stupid) but I haven't seen anyone who could really be taken seriously as an intelligent person (something a Spectre would definately need) with long hair. In fact most people I've seen with long hair look like...well, hippies.
Not to say all are; that group includes an uncle who's played the piano around the world and currently resides in Las Vegas playing. He doesn't have it (long hair) anymore but boy did he look stupid.

He's on trial for mass terrorism. Still not sure if he can reinstate himself/leave the alliance yet.
And still he doesn't have to listen to what they tell him to do with his hair.
I mean really the military argument is silly. So Shep can tell them to kiss his ass on every other occassion but suddenly when it'stime to cut his hair he listens? Really?

Wrong.
He didn't resign his Commision the moment he was made a Spectre.
To use a real world example, during the Second World War there were American OSS (Office of Strategic Services) and British MI6 agents who parachuted into German occupied territories as spies and saboteurs, who also were members of the American or British armed forces. They didn't cease to be military personnel the moment they were recruited by their country's civilian intelligence services. "Wild Bill" Donovan, the wartime head of the OSS during the Second World War, was a career Army officer who also retired as a Major General.
Shepard is a Council Spectre AND a Lt. Commander in the Alliance. One doesn't necessarily cancel out the other.
He is also still a Marine post-rescurrection, as confirmed by his interactions with Admiral Hackett in Arrival and by the fact that he'll be in command of an Alliance warship in ME3, just as he was in ME1. He also has retained the rank 'Commander' through all three games. So while a player can roleplay that their Shep has become disillusioned with the Alliance, they can't roleplay that he's no longer a part of it.
