ME3 wasn't eligible for most of the awards because it wasn't playable. It's probably going to sweep GotY like ME2 did.

Why do people care about "awards" for games that aren't even close to release? I don't. The game got quite a bit of coverage, and at this point in time, that's all that I'm expecting.

Lots of good games at E3 this year. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is aimed at the same market (RPG/Shooter Hybrid) and has been kicking up lots of dust, and Skyrim is an Elder Scrolls game, and therefore in its own league. Putting aside the simple fact that I'm not liking what I'm seeing from Mass Effect 3 so far, I can understand why some focus has been diverted from ME3.

Well ME3 didn't show a lot at E3. Also what was shown wasn't particularily amazing or new. Of course ME3 is a long ways from release so this is somewhat understandable.

Obviously a lot of folks are excited for ME3, but ME3 is coming out in 2012, not 2011 like Battlefield, Skyrim, etc.

That said though the lack of ay critic recognition is kind of bad. Even though awards for game shows are hardly meaningful, they do at least make people look at the game. It's essentially free advertising and a very good way to hook new people. When a game site says "ME is the best RPG of _" it at least gets the idea started for folks to look into it.

I don't expect Mass Effect 3 will have much advertising until winter though. More is certainly better though so it doesn't hurt to start early. After Christmas Bioware needs to go on a blitz and put Mass Effect on everything (T.V., Websites, CGI Trailers, etc.)

Was it really playable or just shown in videos and conferences? I'm not sure.

Well, it won best RPG on IGN despite Skyrim which sure pleases me as I can't care for Bethesda RPGs and it has a legions of fanboys around.
For GT, they haven't had the chance to play it.
For major and general awards, the thing is that Bioshock Infinite was a kind of "surprise" and it's going to be frakkin' A-MA-ZING. I'm happy that if ME3 is going to "lose" to a game, let it be to a game from Irrational Games. Besides ME3, it's the game I'm mostly looking forward to in 2012.
