Anyway the game description pretty much confirms an epic Space Battle end. Or at least strongly hints at one! I think everyone would be disappointed not to see it!
"... As Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine, your only hope for saving mankind is to rally the civilizations of the galaxy and launch one final mission to take back the Earth."
Its going to be good!

Flying the Normandy in a space battle to take back Earth

They better not spoil it by showing it in a trailer or something

We know the Turians have a fleet, as do the Quarians. And we've seen geth ships, but what do we know of the Asari, Salarians, and Krogan when it comes to their space ships?

It has to be huge, long, and there should be many paths to take where errors can either lead to failure of the attack or allow for recovery of the mission objectives by follow up decisions/sacrifices because very large scale offensives tend to give and lose ground until completion, and there should be multiple fleets involved in the Reaper counter-attack with different objectives. That means that you have to decide both strategy and tactics as well as who gets the toughest jobs.
There has to be a tremendous emotional investment in this battle and by the end, the player should feel emotionally drained before he is hit with the excitement of victory achieved. That means that BioWare has to bring out it's "A" game in writing, design, and execution. I think that they have demonstrated that they can do it with the previous Mass Effects, and I can't wait to get my hands on ME3.

From the brief footage we saw at E3 of a Reaper one shotting a Cruiser I think we can expect some really vast battles and experiences.
It was three shots.
Anyway, I loved the Battle of the Citadel in ME1. It wasn't the best space battle, but it was good. I can't wait to see what's in store for ME3.

As far as the amount of shots the reaper needs to blow up the ship, my guess it is as many shots as it takes for shepard to move from where he can initially see it in the background, till he passes the script target area for the changing floor...
Yeah, sorry. I'm boring like that sometimes

Do you really need to give BioWare ideas about that?
Now I'm sure as hell they'll slap it in the next big trailer.

The final offensive on the Reaper fleet has to feel as momentous as the D-Day invasion did to the men who were involved in it. Watching that battle should be as brutal as watching the first 30 minutes of Saving Private Ryan. In short, we should be awed by it. We have been building up to it since the original Mass Effect and the tension will continue to build in ME3 until you can cut it with a knife. You should have butterflies in your stomach before you launch that attack. It's for all of the marbles and if you lose, you lose it all and doom the galaxy to destruction.

shepard piloting the normandy would be like shepard mining for minerals.
it doesnt belong in this game.
No to mention that it's Joker that pilots the ship, not Shepard. Joker is a far better pilot than Shepard could ever hope to be

I'm actually kind of hoping we have less. more cinematic content means less availible disc space or resources to be allocated to play time and plot.
Yeah, because, clearly, an epic end-battle has nothing to do with the plot... or with the play-time ( assuming that what will happen in the battle is directly affected by what you did in the game).
