I like them both. I grinned when Carver said he was proud to be Hawke's brother at the end though, i think he definitely has the best character development.

Bethany. In a cast of jerks and fools, it was nice to have one character who didn't have a few screws loose.

I prefer Bethany. In my opinion, she is the best offensive mage. I never liked Merrill as a companion much and Anders is more of a healer. Even when I played a mage and Carver survived, I always put Fenris in my party over him.
