Ah yes, "Planned romances that were canceled at the last minute due to a comment on Chicken Feet."

We have dismissed this claim.

That was never planned.

And if it was I'd love to see the dev quote.

Ash and Kaidan on the other hand have plenty of quotes about why they weren't done.

It should never have been a retcon from the start. It's the writers who handled it badly. Seeing as the writers probably couldn't handle a normal heterosexual romance, who's to say the homosexual romance won't be much, much more disastrous.

I mean, really. Would you rather Bioware not try and not fail than try and fail miserably, possibly hurting the character in the process? You said it yourself that you were disappointed with how they handled Tali's character.

But it's done.

And I take it as them learning from their mistakes. Plus if I have to suffer so should everybody else. I dislike being miserable by myself.

Frankly I wanted Joker not Kaidan. But if it has to be Kaidan I don't want some bull**** "I loved you all along." as long asthat doesn't exist I'm happy.

Retcons have to contradict something.

Not a universal definition. Plenty of people would call the unwarranted addition of something as having always been there when no sign, suggestion, or implication as to be an effective retroactive coninuity.

Direct contradiction need not apply. Change to continuity, does.

In that case, "Luke I am your father" would be considered a retcon.

I don't think you get my point. if there had been no romance at all in the first place, then they would not deserve anything. But since they opted to include romances for straight gamers, then it is perfectly reasonable for non-straight gamers to be included as well. It is also perfectly reasonable for them to complain when this doesn't happen, ESPECIALLY IN A GAME BASED AROUNG PLAYER CHOICE.

This whole thing could have been avoided if Bioware had included those options in the first place. Not only did they not fix that mistake in ME2, they actively took a step backwards. This is simply a matter of correcting that enequity.

Which is really one of the points that the OP made.

Introduce new bisexual/homosexual characters for the bisexual/homosexual players, and not retcon existing characters (which I think only Jack would require a retcon, although Grunt may also fall under this category).

The problem with that is that almost nobody wants new LIs. Starting a relationship with a character you just met and have no emotional attachment to in the last act in a trilogy is just not the same as building up a relationship over the course of the entire series.

And revealing new information about a subject that's never come up before is not a retcon. Metadata is NOT canon.

It's already confirmed that there are going to be new LIs in ME3. There is some speculation that these will be the s/s LIs. Also, Casey Hudson said that current LIs being m/m or f/f is "not necessarily true".

"Not necessarily true" is a lot different than saying "not true."  Basically that tweet disconfirms that all LIs are bi.

Yes, we will be getting new squadmates as s/s options.  But it still has not been ruled out that at least one former LI will become s/s.

I've seen quite a few threads/topics full of people basically begging, crying, whining, and bothering everyone and everything just to be able to have a sexual relationship with the same sex in Mass Effect 3. Now in Dragon Age 2 this didn't work very well; as I played my Straight Male apparently all of the in-game Male Squadies thought I was gay just because I tried to be "friendly" with everyone. So I already didn't like the idea though I do believe in equality.

All two of them?

And with DA2 it was obvious how to avoid a romance. You *don't* click the love-heart icon. Crazy, I know.

Sure, but Casey said right after that there will be new LIs in ME3. That can definitely mean that he meant the new LIs would be s/s.

I think the "not necessarily ture" part could have been about LIs in general.

For ME3, I think Jack should be made a romance option for femSheps because she mentions having at least one past sexual relationship with a woman.

I oppose Kaidan being made into a romance option for maleSheps. But given Kaidan's... unusual reaction to meeting Shep on Horizon, it would not be the end of the world for me if that character was "revealed" to be bisexual.

Nothing of the sort can be said for Ashley, Miranda, Jacob, or Thane, however. Those characters should remain strictly heterosexual romance options.

She also said she was young and vulnerable when that happened and that now she is not into women, so it doesn't fly as an excuse.

I would like to see Tali and Kaidan as bisexual.

as for other old characters, I don't really care either way.. If Jacob decides he likes dudes, I'm cool with that so long as his personality stays in tact. (IE: don't turn him into a flaming queen)

To the argument that we should make all characters bisexual. I see the benefit of this and I don't have any particular hate for this.

on the other hand limiting player choice can infact be good.. more is not always better. To further this, something I'd love to see is a new female squadmate his is fully gay. No interest in male shep. I can't see bioware doing this but I think it would be cool. I've met lesbians and while I may find one attractive that doesn't mean she's going to date me... this is just reality and putting this in a game just makes it feel more real.

I don't care if everyone is going to love who and whatever they want. How Bioware handle this is what bothers me. It was all fine and well for everyone in DAII to swing from the chandeliers, however for example Anders, just having a normal conversation with him and using the nice option when to meet him apparently means you're flirting with him. Next thing you know he's cracking onto you and then gets mightily offended when you tell him to fob off. I do not want this to happen to either of my Shepard's male or female. The last thing I want to see if Garrus or Kaidan annoyed because they can't take part in some yaoi fantasy.

When did Jack say she wasn't into women?
