Yeah, I´m thinking about joining the NWN multiplayer, though I´m a little late for the party I guess... I wanted to know, which game is more alive when it comes to MP? NWN 1 or NWN 2? Which has better worlds and more players and which is generally more fun as a game(graphics are not an issue, can´t even play NWN 1 fully pumped up due to my card)?
The NWN 1 board has nearly triple as many posts as this one and I get this forums aren´t that old, but I don´t know how representative that is.

Maybe someone has both games installed and can check the server lists in both games real quick, but all answers are appreciated. I´m very undecided

Thanks

I would say "more alive" is not a good way to judge, both are alive. NWN2 has PW's that have 80 folks on them, NWN1 i think is maxed out at 60, both are alive and active. However each platform has some incredibly well done PW's, and i'd recommend ignoring whether it's NWN1 or NWN2 and try to find a PW which matches up with how you want to play. ( even large counts are not an indicator of quality, some of the best worlds have just 10-15 players with 2 of those being DM's catering to your every need.

What kind of PW are you looking for is the correct question? Without knowing that i cannot really help you.

If you cannot play NWN1 fully pumped up, then you have to play NWN1 as your card does not support NWN2 based on that description. Either get a new system and graphics card, or just find a PW for NWN1.

I don´t know exactly what kind of PW I´m looking for, I´ve got no experience. That´s why I want to know which has the bigger community, because logically there is more to chose from.
Also it´s near impossible to find out which PWs would actually come into question without looking at an ingame browser since ping is an issue. More alive really is a good way to judge in this situation and an answer would be most appreciated :-)

And I´m pretty sure my system would handle NWN2, all I have to do in NWN1 is reduce shadow quality and dynamic light sources a little. Also I play on 4x AA, there is only one option which is higher...
So I surely could play it with low-medium details.

Doubtful... there's a significant jump in system requirements.

Go to this website and select Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir from the drop down and run the system check.  It will tell you how your system stacks up.

Minimum req is met. The weak link is my graphics card because my 350€ card died(sigh) and now I only have a 30€ card ;) But with low details it should work, I guess.

Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E6850 @ 3.00GHz
4.0 GB
GeForce 8400 GS
Video Card Features:
Video RAM = 2.2 GB
3D = Yes
Hardware T&L = Yes
Pixel Shader version = 4.0
Vertex Shader version = 4.0

Card is 2 steps above minimum and 2 below recommended

The general concern is this; if you already can't run NWN at maximum settings, then NWN2 will likely cause you significant issues given the graphics upgrade in terms of requirements.

Still, at $20 from Steam for everything (except MoW), you can hardly go wrong.

I find NWN 1 to be a bit finicky when it comes to graphics stuff anyway though. Even with a system that blasts its suggested specs out of the water I find the frame rate lacking when playing in a busy battle.

In NWN 2 you can run it on something fairly modest, you'll just have to crank the stats down. When it first came out I had an AMD 2600+ and a GeForce 5700 and I could run it, but it was pretty hideous. By a 3600+ dual core and a Geforce 7600 it was acceptable at low settings.

As for which to play, go NWN 1 first. Then you'll appreciate NWN 2 when you've exhausted NWN 1. Both have their some good servers, although NWN 1 has rusty mechanics imo.
