Phalanx. More damage per shot, more ammo. They're both insanely slow.

But my favorite pistol is the Predator as it's not so slow and feels a lot better to me.

I hate the Phalanx. I feel like there is a weird lag on when you push the trigger and when the bullet comes out. I also don't like how it aims. I like the Carnifax best.

Agreed, it feels like you're using a flintlock pistol, and the "tweeee" sound of the scope is just plain annoying.

Same here.

Though I would take Carnifex over Phalanx.

classes with Cryo I like the Carnifex.
classes without Cryo I like the Predator.
Never really cared for any of the DLC weapons.

I got used to the Phalanx. I wouldn't say it's better than the other two, but I do find that I go for more headshots involuntarily as the laser just seems to make anything else feel stupid.

Whereas with the Carnifex, it was just point and click. Mostly body shots I presume since the crosshairs never seemed accurate enough making headshot attempts feel like a waste of ammo.

If I had to choose one, though, without ammo powers, then i'd go with the Predator. Plain, simple, accurate enough, with high enough ROF. I don't think I'd miss the other two were they taken away.

Tough choice. It actually kind of depends on my class which I'll choose.

An early game caster class, for example, I like the Phalanx since it has better range and accuracy than the SMG those classes start with.

For a Soldier, it can be either one.

At first I didn't like the Phalanx, but I've come to prefer it over the other pistols.

Edit:

On caster classes, if you have the correct powers or ammo for stripping enemy shields and barriers, the Phalanx has enough ammo to function as a primary weapon.

The laser sight is hard to see and is kinda silly.......plus, I can only fire one shot when I use Adrenaline Rush.

the Carnifex is my preferred one now. I used to like the Phalanx at lower levels than insanity, but i find it too slow, and i waste time aiming with the laser.

I used to hate the Phalanx, aiming with it felt really funny, but I eventually got used to it and it would be my preferred option now. The pistols are actually all really well balanced though, it would have just been better to have some upgrades for them earlier in the game so they keep pace with other weapon classes a bit better.

I think the real question is Phalanx or Predator:

Phalanx has puch, stopping power and accuracy for static mid to longrange engagements (no crosshair is a bit of a disadvantage when moving or in close quarters).

Predator has a higher rate of fire, more ammunition, has decent accuracy in short to midrange and still decent enough firepower to topple most mooks with a nice volley. In addition, which is one of the most intriguing details on this weapon, the high ammunition- and clip-count coupled with high rate of fire means that with HP Criticals, you can dish out incredible amounts of damage over very short time as the chance for criticals is significantly higher, making this pistol very potent in the later game stages.

Phalanx is pretty much a sniper rifle, but the Carny has a slightly higher fire rate.

All this time I was thought it was called Camflex the way the text is sometimes in ME2 is annoying. The text in ME1 was perfect imo

of all the heavy pistols I preferred the Predator it was pretty fast had a decent clip size and when you slapped an ammo power on it,it did alright damage.

I played with the Carnifex the other night. Even though it did have little ammo, I still preferred it over the other two pistols.

I would never pick the Carnifex over the Phalanx.

When I use the pistol, I swing out of cover, land one shot as best placed I can ASAP, and swing back in.
Firing rate is of no concern to me... the accuracy, damage, and lolammo of the Phalanx means it's outright the best choice for my style.

I gotta say... I love the Phalanx.

I usually use the phalanx, but as soon as enemies are more than, I don't know 10 meters away I can't really say where I'm aiming at, so I usually aim with the crosshair and tap aim and fire shortly after that to land a hit. Man I need better eyes or a lower resolution.
I never could really tell which one of those two pistols is more powerful but since I paid extra for the phalanx I always feel obligated to use it. And it looks better : )

Use the Mass Effect Wiki.
It helps fill in the blanks left by ME2's colossal lack of information.

Carnifex: 85.4
Phalanx: 109.8

The Phalanx is great for Loki's. Otherwise I slap them on squaddies like Jacob. Carnifex has a construction worker feel to it and has more stopping power when it comes to making organics stumble.

I kinda hate the Phalanx. Targetting laser is distracting, feels weird, looks weird, gunshot sounds weird.

Carnifex just has a better "feel' to it for me.
