So I'm on my second play through and I have noticed a difference in act 3 when giving Isabela her gift.
In my previous play through a flirt/heart dialogue came up but this time around it hasn't.
The only difference is I started to romance Merrill but then decided against it so broke it off (this was in act 2)
Is this what has caused it to disappear?
Seems strange to take that one piece of dialogue away when it appears to still be possible to continue to romance Isabela (questioning beliefs dialogue options had not changed)
Has this happened to anyone else?
Shame as I liked the flirt option even though it veered away from love!

Never happened to me. But I would guess, as you suggested, that it is the romance with Merrill that made it disappear. From what I've heard, romancing her cuts off all the other romances which stops the flirt lines from showing up, though I'm not entirely sure.

Romancing Merrill means you're no longer romancing Isabela.

I wish that were made more clear. I'm not sure a "Choose me!" "No, choose me!" conversation would have been entirely in-place, but the totally invisible way they did it wasn't any better

Ah ok it's just confusing as her questioning beliefs dialogue didn't change, it still had her admit falling for Hawke and Hawke being able to say she was interested in her.
So after rejecting Merrill in act 2 and not have her move in, is it possible to reignite the romance with her in act 3?
Honestly! I'm glad real life doesn't work that way lol can you imagine being stuck in a relationship with someone you briefly romanced then decided wasn't for you and then everyone that comes along is like "oh no we can only ever be friends cos of that one time between you and so and so!"

Merrill is a "romance Juggernaut", just like Anders. If you sleep with them and STAY then you are no longer able to romance anyone else. I've heard tell that even if you break it off, the other companions are all "... nothx" afterwards. It might also just be a bug though.
On a character level, Bela loves Merrill like a sister to her. So perhaps if you sleep with her, Bela's all "... dude go **** yourself. I told you not to hurt her!" ;p

Serves me right for being a player then lol Although I was totally loyal to Isabela in my first game and the second one I intended to be loyal to Merrill but I just couldn't take to her. Isabela won me over again she makes me laugh
