ok so a lot of people bash Dragon Age 2 so I thought I'd list some FACTS to the haters around here:

1.Dragon Age 2 has EXAGGERATED sword models compared to Origins. WRONG! Modders have proven that sword sizes are the same except Hayden's Razor.

2. Alistair looks swollen because the modelers are incompetent. WRONG! Alistair's face looks much better in proper lightning... the problem is the shader.

3. Crafting system was simplified. FACT: most crafting abilities have just been made differently by being accessed at Hawke's home and finding different ingredients.

4. Combat has been simplified and made less tactical. FACT: combat has been made more fluid and responsive but still retains many tactical elements from Origins.

5. BioWare  forums prove that most fans hate Dragon Age 2. FACT: the forums are the central point of BioWare flaming right now. it's not an accurate representation of what the fans think of dragon age 2.

6. Dragon Age 2's plot is far worse than that of Origins. FACT: While it's subjective to declare which game had the better story, Dragon Age: Origins 'borrows' many cliches and tropes from generic fantasy settings and LOTR.

1. So by your own admission some swords are bigger. Also, please provide evidence to these modder's findings.

2. I havn't seen anyone saying the modelers are incompitent, just that there are problems with the models. Although you have brought up another problem which is the shader. Great work!

3. You mean, finding less ingredients, not different ingredients.

4. It still retains many elements? Therefore by your own admission it must have lost some tactical aspects, other wise it would have retained all tactical elements. While it may be true the experience is somewhat tactical on the PC, the console variations are pure hack and slash.

5. Consult the Metacritic userscore, and/or any other Gaming forum, wether it be Bethesda boards, No Mutants Allowed, Gamespot, 4chan etc etc you will see quite a widespread dislike of DAII.

6. Yes, in Origins a guy gathers a fellowship and an army of men elves and dwarves and marches to defeat an ancient evil blah blah blah. Done before? Yes. Epic? Yes. Domestic life in Kirkwall, done before? No. Epic? No.

The sales tell the whole story about the fan reception.

Saying that people liked the game is putting a wool over your own eyes.

You say that as if it was necessarily a bad thing.

And I don´t know if I would say DA2 has a plot. More like 3 barely connected stories with a few supporting characters in common.

The fact that crafting is all done in Hawke's home makes it pointless... In Origins You are able to mix potions, prepare traps etc. everywhere so you have more freedom. In DA2 You are restricted to do it in home. -> SIMPLIFICATION

Since I play on PC... NO tactical camera means NO tactical play. It was the thing that made the game tactical. In DA2 you are restricted to controlled party member. Less camera freedom, less tactic -> SIMPLIFICATION

True, but negative reception means that the game was NOT what we expected.

I see some similar themes in Oins and LOTR (typical in fantasy in general), but that means that BioWare takes good old, concepts, no shame in that. The problem with DA2 story is that if it is personal it is boring and no epic... In Origins You have a grand quest to do.

Answer to DA2 problem - Bioware set the bar for there games so high that they are not always able to jump that high.

Trolling in the defence of DA2 is (apparently) no vice!

Isn't the title a misnomer as most of what the OP posted are opinions?

@OP

As other posters have pointed out, your list is opinion, not fact. I'd suggest you change the topic title to reflect that, if not you are doing nothing but flame baiting. Even a mod should change the title if you won't.

Most have already stated what I feel about DA2. Hawke is a poor man's Shepard, the companions are one dimensional (except Varric in my opinion, and Aveline to some extent). The story was a cool idea, but executed horribly. Very bad. BW should stay away from framed narrative, as they do not know how to do one properly, perhaps they should ask the devs of Alpha Protocol on how its done.

Act 2 was the only good part in the mess of a game called DA2, Act 1 was extremely tedious filled with fetch quests you HAD to do to progress the story, and as another said, Act3 needs to be nuked from Orbit. So bad. Frigging transformers and a sith lord. I question whoever thought atc3 up, if they were overdosing on some cough syrup or something.

Anyways, this is my opinion, take it or leave it.

Alistair's face looks much better in proper Lightning? ..er..really? So he was struck by lightning and that's why he looks the way he does? ^^

Btw..I really don't care ..DA:O always will be my first love in regards to this rpg. DA2 comes a VERY distant second place. I still haven't done a complete play-through, whereas DA:O I created 23 characters. :P 23 characters @ 80 to 83 hours each...thats a lot of time spent in DA:O...if I played 3 hours in DA:2 I would be muchly surprised. But I will eventually tough it out.

Some “Facts” about Dragon Age 2

Recycling Maps is fine when they are “Artfully Done”

The Game Spans 7 years not 10

Darkspawn are related to Mutant Clowns

Elves are mutated fish people crossed with Donkeys

DA2’s Plot is three short stories just as overused as Origins

Bioware overuses the word Innovation just like the word “Awesome” when talking about DA2

Dragon age 2 has lost Fans

Dragon age 2 is full of useless inventory – some of which actually get’s labelled as junk

Dragon age 2 is not a critically acclaimed game

Your Companions spend more time being friendly with your dog then Hawke

In Dragon Age 2 it’s common for people to lose their pants or rib cage

All enemies in Dragon Age 2 were trained by Mystical Ninjas

Hawke is a Poor Man’s Shepard

Rushing a game is clearly the way to go

This list took only 2 minutes to make

Hehe this made me smile, specificially the statement "Hawke is a Poor Man's Shepard".    Like I was stating before I kind of wandered off the boards...Dragon Age 2, seemed to be formed the same way as the Mass Effect series, speech wheel and all.    Seemed to me that the team thought that was a good way to cut corners.   I'm not saying Dragon Age 2 is all bad, just..is missing the feeling, the atmosphere and the fun..of DA:O.    All in favour of courting the console players..seeing as we PC players didn't buy as many copies, ..or at least thats the way I read the original announcement.     Ever think that might have turned a few people off?   I suspect it might have. :P

At any rate, I promise to finish DA:2 off some day...but really would rather go back and play DA:O...heh go figure huh?  :P

How old are you?

Did it even cross your mind that the person may have played the game in the course of the nearly two years it has been out?

You do realize that there are mods for this game which lengthen the length of time people play this game?

You do realize many people replay their games?  ITS CALLED REPLAYABILITY!

Not everybody is going to play the games the way you do. When you get older you will understand that.

7. DA2 sucks, the story is recycled from the DA:O Circle tower, combat is recycled from Dynasty Warriors, Hawke is the lamest character in the history of fiction, the game is ugly, Kirkwall is two empty streets, the whole game is 50 fetch quests in The Cave or on The Coast, and the ending gives cheap cliffhangers a bad name. WRONG! These are all innovations.

Hehehe I'm sorry..but was that sarcasm?  I think it was :D  It made me laugh at any rate. :D

And some people find playing video games at all to be "sad."  So what's your point?

Oh I am so glad you offered sympathy where none was needed.    I spent a year playing DA:O mainly because I had sworn off my usual MMOs, and to tell you the truth I think there are still things, items, achievements I haven't gotten yet...I have something like 110 achievements give or take a few.

I like this game it IS replayable, and it is possible to do it many many ways.   I suppose you are one of the ones that plays an rpg for 5 hours, and comes on the boards and declares...Ta Da!!  I dun beat da game..I r dat gud! :P

I play in real time with my whole team set up to defend each other, I love the battles and setting up strategies.   I DO NOT play with the pause feature at all.    I play on hard mode.    Eventually I may wipe all those characters and start over again on Nightmare.      I love challenge.    I love to challenge myself.     DA:O is a good game (for me) to do exactly that.
