Sorry to double post (sorta bump), but I found out what the dang problem was! Something so stupidly simple. The problem was in Lenovo's brilliant Energy Management:

Image IPB

Not sure why that has such a toll on GPU performance when plugged in, but I Alt+Tab'd in and out of the game, checking and unchecking the "Smart power-saving hard disk" option, and that fixed it!

The nVIDIA Optimus, itself, is a problem. All the way, back before DA2 came out (close to a year ago now), a lot of games have had the same trouble.

I've just downloaded the game, installed it, and went into the configuration tool to get the game set up to the standard I think my computer can handle, but it won't even allow me to set the standards that I want, since it seems unable to find my dedicated graphics card.

Anyone who has any idea how I can get this to work?
I really don't want to play in a integrated Intel GPU, not much fun with that...{smilie}

Twelve months ago on these forums, I had already seen it come up many times, and told that member this:

You have a very common problem that MANY games have with your badly designed Chipset's and GPU's firmware, and need to visit nVIDIA's forums and support to work it out. Typically, only a very narrow range of drivers are going to work to access the "correct" video option. Many games' forums have had members complaining about the various Optimus devices.

nVIDIA still hasn't remedied the problem.  It's showing up in the ME-3 Demo.

It was a convenient vehicle upon which to allow the transfer of data from the DAO forum to this one, and it continues to plague a relatively large number of nVIDIA Optimus owners, such as in this recent thread in the DA2 tech forum:
