Take her line "I'm no fan of aliens"
Replace "aliens" with "blacks", "jews", "asians" or any other race and it's pretty damn racist.
Why is Ashley considered racist, but not the other party members?

Not necessarily, but if you said it the way Ashley did it might be interpreted that way. What do you think would happen if someone important got on the TV and told the world "I'm not a fan of (muslims/asain people/gays)"?Saphra Deden wrote...

Seriously? Ash isn't racist. She's concerned about non-humans on the most advance alliance warship which I can understand. She's concerned for the safety of her commanding officer who has their guard down.
If she was racist she'd be with Cerberus and a supporter of the Terra Firma party which she is not.
I will never understand why so many people think Ash is a racist.
Amen.
Until I started spending time on these forums I had never heard anyone declare Ash as racist.
She claims that other races put themselves first before any other race, and shes right, humans do it, turians do it, asari do it. In all of my playthroughs I have never, ever once thought Ash was racist, and will fail to understand how people see her as racist. Unless they're getting totally different dialogue to what I'm getting.
Also - Renegade shep says "Big Stupid Jellyfish" <--THAT is arguably one of, if not the most, racist comment in the entire ME series.

Is that the "indoctrinated program" that I've heard so much about? I don't like sea monkeys ... crap, you've just changed that to Jews ... I'm a racist.
Ash does not say that she hates any group .. she simply does not trust other species. Even Nihlus tells Shepard that humans have no idea how dangerous the galaxy is. If you have to change what the person says to justify your reason, well .....

Anyways! Ashley certinally isn't the only character in the serries who's speciest, but I think part of the problem is that her prejudicies are based on inexperiance. Garrus telling Tali that he hopes her people are properly contrite for unleashing the geth is undoubtly a jackhole thing to say, but he has the advantage of being very experianced in encountering all sorts of different life and that the geth are flashlight faced murderbots.
Now, obviously it's not cool for Garrus to imply that Tali has some personal responsibility for the geth, or even for the rest of the races to treat the quarians as scum for a mistake perpetuated by their forebearers, but you can at least understand the motivations for such, even while condeming them. Ashley's initial xenophobia though is basically nothing more than "Aliens are different!" which is kind of embrassing, especially when you've got Kaidan saying, "Aliens are just people, too."
As for Grunt, who says things far worse than anything Ashley says, he's A) a tank bred murder machine, who's esentially been programed with his prejudices already in place, so it's kind of hard to blame him, and

I find it interesting that Ashley specifically mentions how uncomfortable she is with Wrex and Garrus being given free reign of the ship, but doesn't mention the quarian who's playing around in the engine room. Granted, if I'm remembering correctly, some of her elevator conversation with Tali comes off as a bit ig'n'ant, but Tali is, obstensibly, the one who should be the greatest cause for concern.
I imagine it is just an oversight on the part of the writers. Her conversations with Tali are all friendly. She never says anything ignorant or anything mean.
Garrus is actually the worst in that regard. He makes a fool of himself in a lot of elevator rides.

Tali doesn't say anything "racist" against geth. You can't be racist to a geth, it is not a person, it is a machine.
The quarians were right to try and destroy them.
I never said she was racist...
I said she was genocidal.

- Mordin never expected one of his own to do stupid experiments, but he did expect it from a Krogan
- When on the flotilla you can hear a Quarian say: 'I never expected a HUMAN could speak that well'
- Krogan just hate every other species
- Shepard said something like this in LotSB: 'Shouldn't ou be dancing like every asari?'
- Batarians just hate humans
- There was that Turian during Thane's loyalty mission that was also anti-human
- There was an Asari on the Citadel that was also anti-human
- Pressly didn't like all those aliens aboard of the Normandy SR1
- If you let the council die, the turian shopkeeper on the Citadel is also anti-human
....

The volus have basicaly no enemies and most strong players have a interest in seeing them safe and prosperous. The humans primitive bully style however is very close to make them very alone in a harsh galaxy where you need allies more than anything else.Saphra Deden wrote...

You sure you're not talking about the Volus? Last i checked humanity was given an incredible amount of power in thirty years.
The volus have been a part of the galactic commnity for centuries and they've got less power than we do.
Humanity has earned what it has because it is relentles and won't take "no" for an answer. We were "given" nothing. We had to fight for it and leave the aliens with no other choice.
The volus are too passive.
The volus are mature enough to swallow their pride and cooperate, wich is not passivity.
