Sudden extreme slowdown, not spec related

I have been playing Dragon Age for the last week or so on my new computer, and everything was going fine.  I have restarted on a second character and set up in Camp after finishing Lothering.  All of a sudden for no rhyme or reason, the game is unplayably slow.  To quote another thread, all characters are running in molasses.  This is not a framerate issue, as I had been playing with max settings for hours with no issues.  Turning down the settings does not fix the game, although it does increase the framerate from 35ish to 70 or so, obviously.

I have even loaded up old saves on my old character and the issue persists there.  I can't even remember what the last thing I did before the slowdown has happened either.. I think I was skipping through a bunch of dialog in Camp that I've already heard.  Nothing has changed on my computer in the way of drivers and whatnot.  It just seems like a terrible, terrible bug.  Anything I can try before reinstalling?

Specs shouldn't be needed but I'll post so you don't ask.

Intel Core i7 2630QM
6GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M
Windows 7 x64

Laptop? Check your system temps.

System temps appear to be fine. A weird thing is that for the audio, like voiceovers from Duncan when starting a new game are in real-time but everything visually is slowed down. Like I said, the game was fine before.

I reinstalled the game and that did not work. I have no idea what else to try, or what the problem is even being caused by.. any suggestions?

What are your graphic settings, including resolution?  And in the Nvidia Control Panel > 3D Settings > Adjust Image Settings with preview... what is that set for?

Also, are you running any background applications while playing the game?  E-mail, browsers, etc?

Finally, reboot the computer and, once startup is complete, got to the Windows Start Menu and type in dxdiag.  Launch the DirectX Diagnostic Utility.  What is the pagefile size listed as?  It will something like XXXX MB used, XXXXXX MB available.

EDIT:  I'd also be curious as to what your temperature readings are, and what utility you're using.  CPU and GPU temps.

I had all settings maxed, and yeah, I usually run Firefox when I'm playing.. never had issues before. The good news is that the game is running smoothly again. A fresh reboot seems to have done it, whereas it didn't before. I guess the fix was reinstall + reboot. Thanks for your replies, hopefully the problem doesn't crop up again. Still confused about it though.

Glad it's working now. Yes, rebooting after reinstalling the game is always a good option.
