I purchased a digital copy of Dragon Age: Origins UE from the Origin store, and I have not been able to get it to run after installing it, uninstalling it, and installing it again through the Origin downloader.
Whenever I try to run the game, I either get the activation window to enter my EA account online, or I get the start up menu. When I try entering my account and password on the activation screen, it says "connecting", but never actually connects. I let it go for a couple hours and it still said "connecting." I never get any error messages with it.
From the start up menu, when I press "play", I get the little busy cursor like the program is about to launch, but nothing happens other than the start up menu closes.
The only thing I can think of is my video card is getting in the way. I have a Samsung laptop that has both the intel integrated chip (which I know is not compatible) as well as an Nvidia Geforce 310M. I've messed with all of the settings I can think of to make sure the nvidia card is being used for the game, but still no luck.

Regrettably, no matter whether you solve your immediate problem or not, you are unlikely to be satisfied with the poor graphics performance from that low quality device. It is slow, it is weak, and only offers a very slight improvement (if any) beyond the Intel video chip's capability.

The minimum card named in the system requirements has a performance level three times higher than the basement capability of a Geforce "10" card.

Yeah, but that doesn't explain why the game isn't working. I'll be happy if I can just get it working and see how it plays with bare minimum settings. I did pay for it, and doubt I can get my money back, so I may as well try it out.
Any ideas?

I don't know if this helps, but I run the "Troubleshoot Compatibility" option from Windows 7 and it says "DAOriginsLauncher is incompatible."

1) There have been some server connection issues as well as a string of password resets from EA and BW due to the recent hacking of one of their old servers. Make sure Origins and DAO have the correct password.
2) There is a known issue with the EADM (now Origins) version of UE in which it does not place the CD key in the correct location in the Windows registry. There is a beta fix and more information on troubleshooting the Ultimate Edition in the pinned thread on the Ultimate Edition and DLC issues as well as in the pinned solutions round-up thread. This doesn't sound like your issue, but it may be manifesting a bit differently with the newest version of the EA download program. You may also find a reference to the incompatible launcher message in the solutions roundup.
3) DAO will not run if it detects that your hardware cannot handle the game. Normally it pops up with a configuration screen with a warning that no supported video card has been found and refuses to start.

Actually, EA was suppose to roll out a fix in the EADM/Origins stuff that should have addressed this problem. Maybe they didn't. We can inquire with the devs on Monday. The original poster can check by going to the launcher screen and selecting Configure > Game. The CD Key should be listed on that screen.
Meantime, jimahh... I would suggest you go into the Origin/EADM configuraton panel and set it NOT to load at Windows startup. Then reboot your computer and try launching the game directly by running the file:
Program Files (x86) > Dragon Age > bin_ship > daorigins.exe ... if you have 32-bit Win 7, it will just be in "Program Files".
Another possibility, like sami jo said, is that the game doesn't recognize the Nvidia part of your GPU setup. Others have encountered this before... you may have to explore Samsung's forums to find how to force your Nvidia mobile GPU "on" all the time.
Finally, if you have any non-standard characters in your EA password, anything other than a number or letter, it can cause issues.

2) The same issue occurs whether I'm using Origins or running directly from Windows with Origin not running in the background.
3) This is what I'm currently trying to figure out as the Configure>Game screen only lists the Intel chipset as the only video available...
4) My password is fine as just prior to installing DAO UE, I had to reset my password to install Mass Effect 2, and have had no problems with installation or running ME2.
BTW, thanks for the replies, I appreciate the help and feedback!

Okay... we're making a little progress, then. Here's the deal... the "launcher" itself is a 2D application... so your hybrid-graphic laptop is only going to show the 2D rendering hardware... in your case, the Intel chip.
Others have had this same issue... although I cannot recall what, if any, solution they've discovered. Here's the only thread I could find about it in the last few weeks:
http://social.biowar...68909/1#7472498
... not much help there. I think your answer will either be on the Nvidia forums or with Samsung. Obviously, others are having the same issue... so maybe they've found a solution.
EDIT: I've sent a personal message to the user who posted in the topic I linked (above)... we'll see if he discovered anything new. I'll post here if I learn more.

I'm actually starting to think the problem has got to do with the activation screen now. After messing around trying to figure out the video card, and rebooting the computer multiple times, I've noticed something.
The first time I try to load the game after a reboot, I hit play on the game menu and it takes me to the activation screen which is then stuck on "connecting" forever after entering email and password.
Each time I close the activation screen off, and try to load the game again, it takes me to the game menu and then shuts down after I hit "play."
If I reboot the system, I once again get the activation attempt with no luck, and then nothing each subsequent time...

The problem is definitely with the activation window. Instead of using my username and password to log in when I get the activation window, I hit the "Create New Account" button. All of the text on the activation window disappears and I am stuck with a red dragon and nothing else happening.
Any thoughts?

Have you made sure that all of the appropriate holes have been punched in your firewall? It may be getting hung up attempting to connect.

Of course, it had to be something as simple as that! lol! I turned off my firewall and the game loaded up right away without a problem!
Question is, what ports do I need to open to run DAO through my firewall? I'm searching everywhere throughout the forums and can't find any reference to specific ports to open for DAO...
*Edit* Found the Ports in the manual. Thanks for the help everyone. Now just need to fix the DLC...

Yay! There are a couple of DLC threads pinned to the top. I promise, it's worth the hassle. =)
