The new system barely makes a difference. In ME2, we had to wait for levels to have enough for the unlocks anyways, now it just makes you earn the levels, but it automatically unlocks it.

I think there's a big difference because, in ME2, despite what level you were, you couldn't spend your points freely in the skills you wanted because those damn locks were still there (and you had to spend 3 points in concussive shots so you could got overload).

According to what Brenon said, that problem is gone in ME3 because skills are going to be level based, which means you'll have freedom to spend your points as you wish (specially when rebooting your characters, if possible). Sounds way better to me, honestly.

It's not as though Garrus' Armor-Piercing Ammo was more useful than Concussive Shot, though, dude.

Of course, however, that could be another issue for another thread and maybe another time (since we haven't seen footage of any of new skills and their balance).

Isn't Shockwave an ability that has to be unlocked? (Pull on the other hand does have its uses even on Insanity.)

And that's just the problem.  For the Vanguard, Pull requires Shockwave.  I agree that Pull is quite useful.  Shockwave is trash.  Admittedly, Shockwave requires two ranks of Charge, so it isn't available immediately.  But it's still annoying that it blocks access to Pull, which is a far superior power (at least on higher difficulty levels).

It's opposite for Adepts, though.  Shockwave requires Pull.  Hmm.

That's what I like about the new system. No more wasting points on Shockwave just to get Pull (which is a power I rarely get because of that), now it's just save points and wait.

thats like having a huge plate a bacon and eating a bunch. then you eat a bunch more, then you want to eat more, but before you do you take a break because someone punched you in the balls.

i shouldnt have to wait to unlock anything in ME3.

I guess we just need to wait and see how this will work in ME3. One thing is certain, I'm will modd the game.

Poked around a bit, so apparently the pre-reqs in the form that you guys have seen at E3 aren't around anymore. They're level based unlocks now, but from what I understand it's fairly generous in that most of the abilities unlock over the first handful of levels or so.

Wow. ME3 looks to not only be learning from the series' own (few) flaws, but from the flaws of video game RPGs in general. Can't wait to see what the final product looks like.Image IPB
