I have installed Mass Effect on my PC, and get this error "Ran out of virtual memory. To prevent this condition, you must free up more space on your primary hard disk. MallocLarge(size = 1077956608, type = 4096, protect = 4, VM = 887042048/2147352576)" when the game is loading the main menu after "Click to continue". The screen goes black and the message appears in a popup box. I have installed the latest patch.
My specs are(from the configuration screen):
Processor: AMD Athlon™ II P320 Dual-Core Processor
Clock Speed: 2091 MHz
Physical Memory: 2.75 GB
Display Adapter: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470
vRAM: 512MB
Driver Version is black, yet I have installed the latest driver from Medion(My laptop make) for the Adapter.
Sound Adapter: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) (Although I know this causes problems if run in hardware mode, I set audio to run in software and no change)
Driver Version: 6.0.1.6132
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (Mar2009) or later

I have changed the virtual RAM allocation of my computer with no effect. Is there anything I can do to make it function?

Run the disk defragging tool and see if it's excessive fragmentation causing the error.

Also how much room do you have on the Operating systems harddrive? Have you by any chance loaded a bunch of stuff and maybe caused the issue. As well as how much OS swap room do you allow on your drive....should be set to around twice your ram as a basic guide, otherwise you need 5-10 gigs free of unfragmented space on your computer hard drive that the OS is installed on.

Thank you for the help. My C: Drive, on which Windows is located, was 2% fragmented, and has 221 GB free of 256GB, should I defragment it? As for the swap room, I set it at 5630mb(double) initial and three times(8445mb) for the maximum, with no success.
I am running 32-bit windows 7 if that affects anything?

Have you updated the game to latest 1.02, are you running in XP compatibility mode with admin rights? Have you updated the Realtek drivers for you audio card, the base driver for Win7 stinks and can cause issues. Have you checked the HD for bad sectors and full function?

The video drivers being blacked out is not a good thing in my opinion, but may have nothing to do with it. You may want to dl from the main ati/amd site and get the latest catalyst or one in the mid 10s to see if any change.
