Mages are overpowered out of the gate, so you start out the game *realy good*.

At some point you also get to wear the best armor in the game , so you are *really good* and far more duarable, while still being an effective caster.

Oh, and then, yeah, by the end of the game you will be completely unkillable, able to dish out decent damage without expending any any mana at all, and also able to kill and control entire roomfulls of enemeies at once with the most potent magic in the game.

There are no downsides.  There are no "rough patches".

He was asking about survivability and you gave him a spec you have to be 19+ (for the paralyze blood spell) to take advantage of.  Best case 16+ before any AW makes a better tank than a warrior, If you think otherwise, you fail at building warriors.

Ignore the AW/BM bandwagon fanboys, they only get really good at endgame, unless you are consoling yourself in exp or something. If your question is "who has the most survivability for the last 2 hours of gameplay" Then they are right, if you are asking about for the vast majority of the game, its a warrior.

Ignore this guy, he has no clue.

From level 7 onwards you're tough as hell. From level 14 onwards (you still have quite a bit more than 2 hours to play.............) you'll be a better tank than any other class can ever be..

And level 1-7 you're a normal mage. Kicking ass.

Rel, level 14 is the magic line not 16. You fail at AW if you think otherwise because you unlock Shimmering Shield at level 14 which is what makes Arcane Warriors so uber.... 100 resistances to mental and physical and 75 to elements..

I think the downside is that it just takes all the enjoyment out of the game. Especially if it's the first playthrough. As most people mention already, including you, you become unkillable. It really feels like the equivalent of a 'legal' godmode.

It may be fun for an hour or so, but it wears quickly.

I agree with you entirely.  That was really ever my point.  I think when they fix the perma-Shimmering Shield bug , it will keep AW from being perpetually invulnerable, but they will still be defensively tougher by virtue of their normal toggles like Rock Armour and Miasma.   But an AW/BM will definitely ruin a playthough and remove the fun from the game, at least a non-solo one on normal difficulty.

As far as needing to wait until higher levels until AW are any good, no.  As of Level 7 you are forever more more durable than any warrior can be at the same level, because you get the same armor availiable to them, as well as spell toggles.  And the Sword and Board sustainables dont unlock that much sooner than the top tier AW abilities, not that they are even as close as effective as Simmering Shield, phase evasion, and the ability to root or stun multiple enemies at will.
