I followed this tutorial:
http://www.x3dmod.co...a_new_class.htm
but every time if I choose the new class and click on the background, the Playercharakter dissapears.
If I select first one of the original classes and  click the background and then begin new , the charakter does not disappear any more, but I get the human warrior, not the  charakter whom I have made for the new class.
It`s very strange.

Assuming the tutorial normally works, you'll have made a mistake somewhere. Double-check everything you did.

I'd start with the modified sheets from background.xls. They have to be exactly right, and internally consistent, for the game to work normally.

I only skimmed the tutorial, but on first reading I'm surprised it doesn't amend background_names and background_icons in an analogous way to background_desc.

There's a line in the module script

SetLocalInt(OBJECT_SELF, "wd_set", 1);

which won't do anything (because "wd_set" is not defined in the module variable 2DA), but that's not the cause of your problem.

Hm, I think I have done all things right, but I will check it once more.

Hi!
I have the same or a similar problem:
I changed the original classes/backgrounds to fit the new setting. I modified the following .xls sheets:
CLA_data, Backgrounds, background_defaults, chargen_preload, ALWizard_Default, ALWarrior_default, ALRogue_Default, RACE_base, background_desc, background_names, background_icons

Ingame almost everything works fine (strings, icons, class/Race/Background combinations) but there is no character model displayed at no point.
Since I get the choosen default_classname.utc as PC after I start a game, I don't think I made mistakes on the creature naming or background_defaults/chargen_preload .xls editing.

I believe it simply doesn't load the default creature to start over with the character genereation.
Does anyone have an idea how to fix that?

Best Regards,
Korahan

I haven't really looked at this in depth, but there might be a typo. Your custom chargen script is called md_sys_chargen.ncs, but the module event script calls ld_sys_chargen.ncs, which presumably doesn't exist.

That would at least explain why the custom paladin template never loads.

I put a shout out to ladydesire, as she understands this stuff better than I.

@Proleric1
Thank you, my charakter model no longer dissapears. Now I have another problem, but I hope I can solve it. If not, I will ask here again ;).

Also solved here: I deleted the M2DA_base file which is not needed for adjustments on the classes.
Other things that may cause characters disappearing:
- changes on the core scripts such as sys_chargen and others
- exported core scripts even if they are not changed
- changes in the M2DA_base file
- changes in the background_defaults file
- changes in the chargen_preload file
- even changes in the ALclassname_default files
- sometimes the necessary creature files (.utc) don't get exported right by the toolset. Check if they are there.
