Like ghosts, spectres, that sort of thing.

For example, in the midst of a firefight, a mysterious psychic force comes out of nowhere and kills the Cerberus troops you just engaged. Or, when wandering through an empty building, ghostly apparitions appear, startling you and your squadmates.

It could make for a nice subplot if you think about it. For example, Eden Prime exhibits unnatural instability far beyond the norm when Shepard lands there, and he/she discovers that a civilian killed during the Reaper's attack on Eden Prime is the reason for the hostile spectres present on the planet, making it dangerous for anyone to land and threatening to force the planet off its orbit. To restore stability, Shepard must properly lay her soul to rest.

What.

I wouldn't mind Overlord-esque visual hacks though, but this just doesn't fit in the ME verse.

While it could be done and could even be cool if done right, I don't think its necessary. IDK why I immediately though of Jade Empire (you fight A LOT of ghosts in that game) ME doesen't really need ghosts or anything like that. Oh and by the way there are already Specters. ;)

With the reapers here, it makes sense to have some hallucination/paranormal or some horror elements in ME3. So I approve in a way.

Absolutely not under any circumstances.

Why not? It would be cool. People like cool stuff, right?

Imagine Shepard getting a chance to talk to Ashley/Kaidan in the afterlife if he/she sacrificed him/her on Virmire. It would be awesome.

Virtual reality stuff would be cool, but the paranormal has absolutely no place in the MEverse.

Time for the Sten voice: No.

Introducing paranormal elements into what thus far has been mostly straight sci-fi would be the height of silliness. If I want to play F.E.A.R. or Silent Hill, I'll go do that because there are existing games that revolve around the paranormal and psychological horror. *sigh*

OP, it'd be nice to have some justification for this beyond it being "wicked awesome". I'd like Harbinger to dance to the Macarena in ME3, but it isn't going to happen.

If you want the "fear" element, or mystery within the game...there are plenty of ways they can implement that without anything supernatural.

So I really don't think it's needed....

I loved Battlestar Galactica. I mean, it would put characters into a situation they can barely comprehend. The outcomes are usually entertaining.

Battlestar Galactica was excellent and it always had that weird metaphysical thing going on with Baltar and Six from the very beginning, so it wasn't out of place. It would be pretty bad in Mass Effect though

I liked BSG, but I also have a preternatural tolerance for bull****.

Though I would be tickled if it turned out Shepard died for real, and Lazarus Shepard were really an Angel sent from God, disappearing at the end of ME3 after his mission on the mortal realm is done !!!

If there are ghosts and spectres there should be dual wielding of pistols and SMGs.

No.

Supernatural things should only happen in dream-like states (or when Shepard is under some form of mind-manipulation or whatever).

There is no such thing as "supernatural." The definition of the word "nature" encompasses the properties of everything that exists. If it exists, it is bound by the laws of nature.

The "soul" does not exist. There is no evidence that even remotely alludes to it's presence. by extension, this rules out the existence of ghosts, too. Or any other psychobabble bull****.

Everything in the Mass Effect universe established so far is scientifically plausible. Not "possible," mind you, but "plausible."
