I am trying to complete this quest and have been all over the Sundermount caverns, but can't find the graveyard. There is a door in the caverns that I can not open, although I see the handle there. Do I need to open this door to get to the graveyard and if so, how do I open it?

There's a map of Sundermount on this wiki page.
If you're in the proper cave, and are facing the staircase, you need to go to the right versus the left. The left has the unopenable door, wheras the right has some stalagmites. When you approach the latter, you should see the option to exit the area, and you'll be able to get to the graveyard.
