Very much depends on the events of ME3. Unless something happens that would completely alter my Shepard's outlook on the galaxy, then he'll probably stick around. Shoot for an Admiral's commission. He's a die hard Alliance Marine and he wouldn't leave just because he did something like "save the galaxy". There's still Batarians out there, after all.

Charlie will have her 'little blue children' with Liara, serve as Spectre, then "settle down" as Director of the N7 program or something like that...giving field tests to hopeful canidates

Edmund will be a Spectre and settle down... to the best of his ability with Jack

Manlius Shepard (Paragon Vanguard): settling down with Tali, working his Vanguard muscles building her a house. One bonus about schtupping another species: no condoms.

Novus Shepard (Renegade Sentinel): walking around in underwear with Miranda. Also starting a Cerberus splinter group. May also take control of the different merc organizations, diverting credits to his account.

Female Shepard (a.k.a. FemShep) (Renegade Soldier): getting in touch with Liara again, helping her run her information broking, and taking care of little blue children.

If my Paragon Shep becomes disillusioned during ME3, she'll probably retire to some quiet part of the galaxy where no one recognizes her.  Otherwise, she'll eventually take over Anderson's job as Ambassador.  (Of course, even my Paragon Shep would repeatedly use air quotes around the Turian Ambassador.)

My Renegade Shep will privately register the Normandy 2 and keep flying as the captain of the Normandy.

1  Shep takes Jack up on her offer and goes pirate.
2  Shep retires and raises those blue children.
3  Shep takes over as head of  Cerberus with Miranda at his side.
4  Shep living on Quarian homeworld in the house he build for Tali as a wedding present.
5  Shep will marry Ashley, and re-join the Alliance and go spectering togther.
6  Shep will marry and have open marriage with Kelly or he will dump her for something better.
7  Find a way to have a relationship with Morinth without dying or die very happy!
8  Finally hook up with Shiala or Gianna becase he had no romance till the misson was done.

After defeating the Reapers in a glorious victory with humans leading the charge, my renegade Shep will proclaim himself Emperor of the galaxy. Both Miranda and Ashley will both be at my side as I make the other races ****es to my newly created Empire. Oh, and since the Batarians like slavery so much, they will become the galaxy's slave race because **** them that's why. hahaha.

Also say goodbye to the Reapers as a whole as they will be hunted down one by one until they no longer exist.

My Shep will also bare knuckle box a Krogan in a death match broadcast to the entire galaxy.

Secondly, kick non essential personnel off the Normandy
Thirdly, find a backwater planet with beautiful sunsets, no bugs, take a long vacation and leave the rest of the galaxy to do their own cleanups.

Seeing how I just spent two long weeks with my own inlaws, i have to say my outlook for my shep is a bit jaded.

She'll go to Palaven with Garrus to meet his family, his father will, of course, hate her and be terribly disappointed in his son. But that's ok because "independent contractors" don't give a flying f... about what their old snooty parents think.

So they get back on the Normandy and with their scrappy band of noble, loyal, and sometimes unscrupulous friends, travel about the galaxy taking jobs where they can find them. Sometimes smuggling, sometimes legit, eventually they take on passengers to pay the bills, including a brilliant young doctor transporting a rather large and mysterious cargo case, a wandering priest, an Alliance agen....

....err...wait. that's not right. *shakes head*

Though, my Shep's future with Garrus does seem like it will follow a similar path. Perhaps not as down and out. More hero-worship and less struggling to rub enough creds together to eat...

My Shep will find some quiet, remote colony, with a low population, maybe the home she won on Intai'sei, and try to live a somewhat normal and hopefully quiet life from there on out. It Kaidan/Jacob, whoever wins the fight alive and ends up with her, wants to tag, along they can.

So long as she doesn't have to sacrifice herself anyway.

Shepard needs a real challenge after that: taming a Threshermaw by wrestling with it, after that she'll use him as a mount and rides across the citadel, while the peasants are allowed to kiss her ring.
