I've been a big fan of Bioware games for many years. Loved what they did with KOTOR. Now as they released DA and ME in quick sucession of each other I can't decide which has the better set up (PC, NPC, Villians, Storyline..etc).
I've done more ME playthoughs than DA and I curious as to what the next installment of ME will be, but there is always something that holds my interest with DA.

I'm interested in what other people think.

I think they are no better or worse than each other, just different and both good.

Apples to oranges, although I would give a slight edge to ME at this point.

DA:O (9 playthroughs) > ME (6) > ME2 (5) >> DA2 (1).

Don't get me wrong, I liked all of them. But ranking them based on the amount of times I've played through... DA: 10, ME: 11.

That being said, I tend to prefer fantasy over sci fi. Dragon Age as the potential to be my most beloved franchise, but that potential has not yet been capitalized on.

I enjoy both genres, however thinking about it I find ME more orignal than DA. Much of the DA universe has been applied on previous francises (Dwarfs, Elves, Dragons, Trolls, Dungoens...), where ME has many orignal concepts.

I won't deny that there are some ideas recycling in ME (fast than light travel being one), but exploring the ME universe really feels like I will discover something that I've never seen before. DA universe has much than I come across already i the past.

Apples and oranges. Both are enjoyable, but one is a space opera and the other is medieval fantasy.

I tried playing ME and just couldnt get into it, mostly cause im just so bad at shooters that i could barely play it on easy. Saying that i know many people who do play ME and talk about it as much as i talk about DA so i think both are very good, because Bioware is good.

So am I. But you can hold a button (depending on your platform - the same one that lets you select your powers) and aim in that mode, allowing for perfect shots every time. Or play a class less-dependant on guns like Engineers or Adepts.

Well, only based on the world and lore I would have to go with DA-verse, I'm not very picky when it comes to fantasy, I just like certain things and don't exactly care that they have been used n-times over. Science Fiction however, I almost only like certain kind of, while ME-universe is kind of nice and ME games enjoyable.. the setting really doesn't get me going, I want more Transmetropolitan-style of setting (if you are a friend of sci-fi and haven't read Transmetropolitan, shame on you and go correct that mistake right now.)

Both have great potential, we've barely scratched the surface of either.

The future of the DA IP doesn't look too good from where I'm standing right now.

I half expect that DA3 will see the rest of Thedas getting their hands on the Qunari's secret of black-powder and Bioware completely ditching all pretense of rpg for a full-on fps featuring the equivalent of WW1 era tech ... and magic of course.

I don't remember any nukes in Transmetropolitan...And I have not played Fallout 3, so, can't really say.

I prefer Sci-Fi than fantasy. But in term of lore and universe both are pretty awesome ^.^

I meant Fallout 3 is like Transmetropolitan after Tansmetropolitan gets nuked.

Lore wise, I would have to say Dragon Age. The lore just seems more immersive to me than Mass Effect. I think I scrutinize science fiction a bit more harshly than other genres, probably because I studied physics.

Fantasy is same thing, just the word "magic" is used instead.

Well saying magic means I don't have to think about it.  Rather than science fiction (in general) which uses many terms I've heard before (sometimes accurately, other times not so much).

I would say that ME is better as it has had two great installments, while the sequel to DA:O fell flat on it's face.

Word "theory" is used in Sci-fi instead of "magic"

For the universe: ME. Eezo is simply one of the best speculative fiction devices I've ever read about. The Fade? 'Eh, I could really care less. It's your typical 'Other World' type deal. There's nothing bad about the fantastic elements of DA, but there's nothing inspiring either.

For the world: DA. The Qunari, the Circles, the Dalish, the spin on the dragons, the inclusion of a kingdom run in the original Germanic way (heads of households elect lords who elect a King, but things typically end up being hereditary anyway), the list goes on. It's not anything brand new, it's not the most amazing fantasy setting, but it's full of things I love.

ME, on the other hand... Blue-skinned space babes often spend centuries as commandos and strippers. Roswell Grays are really smart and talk fast. Space dinosaurs are militaristic. Blah blah is blah blah blah, blah blah blah. It's not bad, but it's not great either.

Well I feel like I know more about the DA universe because I read all the codexes, and through conversations with companions and NPCs. But all we have ever really seen in Ferelden.

On the other hand I feel like I've actually seen more of the Mass Effect universe, but have less insight into it and it's history than I do the DA universe.

I am completely smitten with the ME-verse, so I have to vote for that...plus, sci-fi is my favorite genre.
DA is no slouch, though. Really, it's a very close choice for me. They're both great.
