That's not to say I don't like Mass Effect, I do, a lot, but in DA I'm not periodically noticing so many little jarring details so I can get into it easier. Maybe it is just something a fantasy setting can get away with that a sci-fi setting can't, but there it is.

Lore wise, I would have to say Dragon Age. The lore just seems more immersive to me than Mass Effect. I think I scrutinize science fiction a bit more harshly than other genres, probably because I studied physics.
id go the other way maybe because i studied history?

Both have great potential, we've barely scratched the surface of either.
The future of the DA IP doesn't look too good from where I'm standing right now.
I half expect that DA3 will see the rest of Thedas getting their hands on the Qunari's secret of black-powder and Bioware completely ditching all pretense of rpg for a full-on fps featuring the equivalent of WW1 era tech ... and magic of course.
You do realize that our worlds equivalent was invented during the Tang Dynasty in China by the 9th century, aka the first half of the medieval era? Is it impossible that it exists and spreads in the DA universe? Or cannot black powder exist simply because it's a fantasy world?
Not saying that I want to, but you are being so ridiculous that it's hard to hold back. I know that you are being ironic, but I couldn't even translate your attempt to anything that even came close to making sense.
EDIT: I actually think that Mass Effects 'fake-science' is very good compared to other sci-fi universes. Although I may have enjoyed the ME games more, I think that the DA universe is better because you can really see/feel the everyday struggle in everything from the political life to the pesants and mages. In ME, everything feels centered around "being big, goddamn heroes"... and racism.

I'm not going to say anything bad about the DA setting. It's a good fiction setting. It was more interesting in Origins/Awakening than it was in DA2...but I'll give that to the fact that we traveled in DA:O. We meet different cultures, learned their ways and history in ways we didn't in DA2.
But the Mass Effect universe just feels so alive, exciting, vibrant, it's just a blast.
@ MinotaurWarrior on the first page:
For the universe: ME. Eezo is simply one of the best speculative fiction devices I've ever read about. The Fade? 'Eh, I could really care less. It's your typical 'Other World' type deal. There's nothing bad about the fantastic elements of DA, but there's nothing inspiring either.
It's literally 'fae' with a D added in the middle.
And frankly, I think both games have not used the Fade to its potential. You could really do some fantastic abstract things in the Fade.
Or barring that, you could at least do something similar to the Scarecrow gassings in Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Ironically, on the other hand, they are allmost too similar to compare since both of them are very much based on IPs that already exist and have a lot of reference to these other universes.
So I'd say that none of them is better or worse. I personally feel more affection for the Mass Effect universe but I also really like the DA one (more so before the DA2 revamp).
So it's a perfect tie if I've ever seen one.

You go ahead and try to create creatures that aren't used in fantasy stories and games yet. They also have to be interesting enough for the player.GiggleLooper wrote...
I enjoy both genres, however thinking about it I find ME more orignal than DA. Much of the DA universe has been applied on previous francises (Dwarfs, Elves, Dragons, Trolls, Dungoens...), where ME has many orignal concepts.

@fchopin What was wrong with ME2?
The game became a shooter and it was no longer a story based game.
I like the ME universe but i want to play a story based rpg game and ME2 failed in that regard.

True but it has some good story (with LotSB as a must - fun, well written and amazingly developed DLC and my Shep had a thing with Liara on ME1 so it's perfect!) and it's a hell of a fun game to play and replay and replay... heh... I'm finishing another run with it and there's no comparison with DA2 too.

I like Dragon Age but it doesn't hold a candle to some of the other fantasy universes out there.

Let's see...
ME2
Story? Check. I don't know what your expecting for a filler, but that's as good as it can get.
RPG? Check. Moral choices, experience, leveling, skills, character development, all there.
Just because it's combat is very action orientated, does not mean it's less of an RPG.

There is a very vocal group of Mass Effect fans who see that BioWare decided to create decent third-person shooter mechanics and decide that it's all ruined.
A part of me, a very petty part of me, thinks they cannot shoot and thus it's the game's fault.
