This is the same guy who gives praises to DA2 story, but belittles ME story. Epic fail.

I don't remember him saying anything positive about DA2's story tbh.

Most of DA2s plot stuff is coherent if you pay attention. Most of that video is just a disjointed mess taken out of context and made to sound worse than it is.

Well, Bioware marketing. I wouldn't take it too seriously ;) I remember the Dragon Age: Origins marketing with its ridiculously awful ad campaign, but I love the game.

ME2 it is so much more polished and detailed...but story-wise, ME2 is worse than DA2 (imo).

Erm; the guy gives praise where he feels its due to both DA2, ME1 and ME2 and raises points of criticism with all three.

I can't imagine what sense it makes to analyze so deeply this kind of aspects of a videogame(!).

Ah yes, because one shouldn’t analyze and critique writing in a media because… erm… why shouldn’t we do that exactly?
Just because it’s a game? Does that suddenly make it exempt from criticism?
Don’t get me wrong; there is something to be said for just turning your brain off for a while and have fun looking at Cain-splosions. Providing a distraction is one of the purposes of entrainment, after all. It’s just that some people like to do more with stories then just glance at them for a moment. They like to think about it, rip it apart and see what makes that story tick.
And when that story then falls apart because it’s badly constructed, well that can be little bit frustrating. For this guy frustrating enough to make a whole series on youtube about it. Good for him. It's better to channel that frustration then let it go to waste.

His videos have a great music choice though.

In my opinion.

Smud has to be bucking for a job in the industry. Unfortunately, his critiques are too reaching and unsupportable. What drives me nuts about Smudboy isn't that he critiques the game; its his misuse of logic. It's like arguing with a creationist who deliberately misconstrues scientific theories to cause confusion.

Can you give an example of that?

And most of his points are subjective.

That's why people either agree with him or despise him.

I question someone analyzing marketing if you're not into this kind of business. Seriously, wtf?

Edit: So, he was just reviewing most of the information so far. I facepalmed more than two times but haters gonna love this.

Seriously, stop posting this crap here.

Smugboy is an idiot.  I'd appreciate it if you people would stop promoting his insanity.

Okay a couple things.

It seems to me that a lot of his critiques in this video can be explained by the simple fact that the game is still in development. For instance the omniblade doing no damage. The effects of the omniblade likely weren't ready for E3 just like the paragon/renegade bars weren't ready yet.

Now for the Kinect voice recognition. Yes its been done before, but Microsoft has been pushing for Kinect usage in it's main titles to try and draw in the hardcore gamer crowd to use the kinect. In my opinion voice recognition is better the gimmicky bodily motion controls, and I'm glad that so far we have not seen of those sorts of motion controls in ME 3. But as far as Smud's critique that it's been done before, it's so nitpicky and petty to point out.

Which leads my to my final thought on the matter. In his response videos to squee913 analysis videos he mentions that some of his motivation for making these videos is to upset fanboys. He gets at sort of pleasure from upsetting people. When I heard that, it made me devalue his entire analysis, because at the heart of the matter it's not really intelligent or insightful, but rather very, very petty.

Well I suppose making whiny pedantic videos must be his hobby, sadly most of them are egotistical self back patting ("Hey guys look how right I am"). Personally I go to Zero Punctuation if I want scathing (and humorous) reviews, this guy just comes across as an embittered ex-fanboy with way too much time on his hands...

Where exactly does he say that? I can remember that he says he enjoys sci-fi by laughing at it and its fans, but nothing about making his vids to upset fanboys.

Ah yes, Smudboy. The whiney cretin with delusions of intelligence spruiking on Youtube. We have dismissed his claims.

Fast forward to about 7:40.

Yes he is being glib here but it demonstrates his attitude and perspective on the issue.

EDIT: I argue that part of the reason he makes is because he gets his jollies from upseting people. And his comments are not in response to how he enjoys sci-fi, but rather how he enjoys "anything" (as asked by squee.)  If you have that sort of attitude when you go to argue anything, it sort of defrauds whatevery you have to say.

To you, maybe. I didn't pay much attention to his answer to this question since I thought squee also went completely 'holier than thou' on his ass. It was a pointless question.
As for whether it defraudes the rest of his arguments, that's totally up to you. I agree with someone's argument or I don't. The person's attitude is not relevant then.

I don't know about his other stuff but his videos about Mass Effect 2 are extremely accurate in my opinion. No one can convince me otherwise that games those days aren't made for the lower denominator. The more easy it is the better. Especially when it comes to RPG. Of course there are still few lights in the dark tunnel but it's more and more a hopeless fight.

As usual, picking apart nigh-irrelevant details for the sole purpose of maintaining an e-persona that's built exclusively around mooching off the popularity of the Mass Effect games.

Lame.

I have no idea who this person is and have never seen his videos. I assume his opinion is of no more import than the average fan on this site.

Personally I'm not nearly as critical of ME and his criticism doesn't bother me much.
"When you press a button something awesome has to happen" and "it does nothing" made me laugh hard though.
