When did Storm and Dance get broken into 2 actual books each? My volume of Storm is one book (my version of Dance is on kindle, but was also delivered as 1 book, not 2).
I think they split ASoS and ADwD into 2 volumes in the UK or Europe, I think?

At least in Germany every book has been split up.

That said, the show had some great scenes that the book didn't have that helped flesh out some characters more (especially the Lannisters). Scenes like Tywin and Jaime, Cersei and Jaime, Cersei and Joffrey, Cersei and Robert, Jaime and Robert. In Book 1, Jaime and Cersei rarely appear. Of course there is also Baelish and Varys. I'm going to consider these scenes as canon.
Of course the book is far more fleshed out overall, especially the military and political elements.
Some chapters I found boring (Bran's tbh, when it's not about Robb). But all in all, it was a pleasure to read.

I'd try to almost consider the book and TV show versions of the characters as totally different, especially the children characters who are all aged way up in the TV show versus the books. At least, there are certain nuances that you can get from the books given how the chapters are from a single POV that the show doesn't deal with. The POV structure of the books I think works best to give way more insight into characters than you ever get from the show.
As I recall too, a couple of the Jaime/Cersei scenes from the first season of the TV show were lifted from some of the later books where they're present as flashbacks.
Enjoy them! The second book differs a good deal from the second season of the show, at least on several plot points and how characters are developed and presented.

There were still some good character moments in the second season, though not as many as the first.

Hated the second season: ain't gonna buy the DVD and it's the only GRRM's related item I will not possess

Every single region of Essos is filled with amazingly interesting looking and sounding places! Wouldn't know where to start speculating in vain.
But I *am* bummed that we don't get to see its eastern coastline.
Also kind of disappointed that only most, but not all Vaes X ruins have their former name in brackets.
A second southern continent? Now that came as a surprise. Anyone have an idea what Ulthos could be derived from? Only thing I can think of is "ulterior".
And I honestly didn't expect the Shadows to pretty much be the Himalayas.
Do we know anything about Last Light to the west of the Irons Isles? I think I remember it being mentioned once, but never described much, let alone shown.
Wasn't a fan of the Journeys map when it was announced (since it naturally being incomplete turns the whole set "to be updated"), but I thought we'd at least get some dates for who was where when. Oh well, it serves well enough for those who need it, I suppose.
And one of the small flaps of my map of Central Essos was noticeably folded incorrectly (as were to a much lesser degree at least two more), resulting in some minor damage.
Anyway, all in all: geekgasm galore! =D

So with the "pain being to much", as I simply can't stand without reading ASoIaF, I've decided to skip the second book, and simply jump to A Storm of Swords. The thing is, is this a logical thing to do? Will I be missing important stuff, like future hints and such, considering the book is vastly different than the show? Should I try to struggle for a month or two until I have my book back, or is it "Okay" to just jump to the third book?
Thanks!

I totally agree with you here, it was interesting to see how the relationships of the non-POV characters played out, which I thought did add some more depth. And yes, Bran's chapters were very boring.
Also, am I the only one that thinks that the prologue chapters in each book drag on a bit.

Eh. Most of Crows dragged on but I really did enjoy the Lannister twin POV chapters. Jaime's was fun because I dig Jaime and Cersei's were fun because it was nice to be in the head of someone going slowly but surely mad.

The TV show and book series exist within separate realms of canon lore. The TV show changes a great deal of details from the books (much more so in Series 2 than Series 1) - as such, I wouldn't consider anything from the TV series to be 'canon' in the book series.
It is nice to see different interpretations of characters on the screen though. Not everybody feels the same though - most of my friends who are big fans of the books hate the added Varys/Littlefinger scenes, as they feel that they are completely out of character for both of them. Another controversial one is the Daenerys/Drogo 'rape' scene, which is exceptionally different in tone in the books.
