The 'Purple Wedding' sounds a little off to me. Doesn't have the same ring to as the Red Wedding does.

So who is the 3rd Targy? And no, Tyrion doesn´t count.

Why does there need to be three Targaryens?

Dany has three dragons, though some people may be referring to the prophecy about the Prince Who Was Promised, a savior figure who was supposed to be heralded by a "bleeding star" (probably the red comet).  According to a dream Maester Aemon has, "the dragon must have three heads" in order to show the Prince the way.  Rhaegar probably read something like this and that's why he was trying to have a third child.  His wife was sickly and after her second child, they were told she'd die if she had another.  Enter Wolf Girl...

Actually fans do call it the
Purple Wedding. I am not really into the fandom of ASoIaF, but I know
that much.

Don't know who first called it that or why tho.

I won't spoil, but it refers to the color of someone's clothing.

I know about the Prince Who Was Promised and the dragon having three heads, but why does each head have to be a Targaryen?

The Targaryens are the masters of dragons, so who else would it be?

Anyone. The prophecy doesn't have to mean that there are three Targaryens required to fulfill it.

It just says (or Maester Aemon, and Rhaegar in Dany's vision say) that 'the dragon' has three 'heads'. What is the 'the dragon' and what does 'heads'? mean?

The dragon, I think, is the Prince That Was Promised, though that was obvious and you probably already know that. Dany is one head, with one dragon. Other candidates? Jon, whether he's a Targaryen or not. Bran with his warging. Tyrion. Aegon, though I don't think he's really who Varys says he is. Sam the Slayer, maybe? Jamie is a remote possibility. It would be quite fitting to the world of A Song of Ice and Fire if the 'saviors' were composed of a combination of a woman, a coward, two cripples or a dwarf.

So you were just asking a rhetorical question? It's been interpreted mostly as needing to be Targs. No one really knows what it means.

Joffrey's wedding, though I've truthfully never heard it given a name like the Red Wedding before.

I think LPPrince made it up and is repeating it in the hopes that it'll stick.

neeeeigh

The Purple Wedding is just a not-super-known name for Joff's wedding, obviously the name being based around The Red Wedding.

Clearly isn't as cool a name, but hey. Someone thought it was cheeky.

I hate prophecies. They have same exact flavor of bullshït about them, no matter if the 'prophet' is someone who actually lived(Nostradamus being most obvious example perhaps) or a character in fiction. In both cases the prophecy is just  non-sense making useless indestructable nut to crack until we are equipped to make our own additions to it thanks to all the  light hindsight provides. Suns rising from West, flowers growing in frozen walls, blah blah blah I don't give a fuk. The actual event " foretold" in prophecy is never anything you could actually read or find from the prophecy. There always are so many  plot twists and turns that it is completely useless to try to speculate or interprete the damn thing til events are pretty much done unfolding anyway. Waste!

People who maliciously spoil those who have never read the books..now THEIRS would make a prophecy I could respect. "Robb and Cat die in book 3." < - THERE is a fine, sense making, non bullshït infested prediction of what will happen. After you read such prophecy, you actually know exactly what is to take place->ie, the GODDAMNED PRPHECY does it's actual job!!

Fuk Nostradamus, Fuk Miri Maz Duur, Fuk house of the undying!!!Con artists the lot of them. If any of them lived in modern times of real world, they'd be busy making conspiracy videos about 911 and moonlandings to youtube.

The idea of Bran being one of the heads of the dragon really makes me want to see him or someone else war into a dragon.

Considering who has the dragon control horn, I´d say it´s quite possible. Although I´m betting more for Jon if he lives that far. That Wilding could teach him.

Wonder what´s stronger, whether the horn or a dragon´s loyalty. Dany seems to have some sort of control over the black one now.

And it´s assumed dragons mean Targaryens because that´s the family symbol, and the beast they are associated with, same way Starks are wolves or Lannisters Lions.

I've got honestly no idea what he's trying to say. Vague prophecies are bad but straightforward ones are good? Aren't prophecies in fiction vague deliberately? If you're just telling people what's going to happen, there's no suspense. And I don't get the Red Wedding example, because that was vaguely foretold as well in the House of the Undying, along with half a dozen other events and plot points.

I've got honestly no idea what he's trying to say. Vague posts are bad but straightforward one-lined declarations are good? Aren't posts on message boards vague deliberately? If you're just flat out telling people what you want to say, there's no suspense or joy of finding the point.

I read a theory that the "bleeding star" was a certain unfortunate knight who had a star on his banner. Coincidence? I think not! (Although it could just be a red wedding herring.)

So I just brought 4 books in one on digital format for my Nexus 7. 27 quid all together for Game of Thrones, Clash of Kings, Storm of Swords and Feast for Crows.

Am I missing any more?

The newest one, A Dance with Dragons.

Digital is the way to go for that one.  It's a doorstopper.

According to amazon, HP is 896 pages and ADWD is 1040 pages.  So, yep it does.

I think the one with Knight fits other aspects of the prophecy better. But I'm hoping both to be true.

Too bad Aemon was not there. I'd like to see his reaction.

I never actually considered that. It would be more subtle than "huge comet appears to herald Dany and her dragons. Who could possibly be Azor Ahai?"
