Hi,
Both NWN1 and NWN2 are giving me patches of lime-green "floor," particularly in the outdoor scenes (haven't noticed any in buildings or dungeons, just "outside"). Any thoughts? My video card is a 1 GB Radeon HD 6770M. I am running Windows 7 Home premium (64 bit).
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

ShinsFortress,
This did NOT save me any time at all. In fact, there's about 20 minutes of my life I'll never get back (reading post cover-to-cover). The link you sent me to showing supported video cards is, by its own admission, over 5 years old. My new laptop is less than 5 weeks old. My Radeon HD 6770M was just a glint in its papa's eye when this list was compiled. Moreover, the fact that other Radeon cards ARE supported leads me to believe that a superior one, such as mine, will also be supported.

kevL,
Please elaborate. I have updated my video driver. My laptop came with DirectX 11.0. What about 9c?

There is no support for any laptop anything. The manufacturers will not agree to any standards, so instead of the "usual" ten percent penalty suggested by the chip makers' technical guidelines and reference examples, the cards are all over the ballpark, inside and outside.
Regarding Dx9, that is what NWN2 requires, and it is complimentary to all other Direct3D versions.

You either need a working driver, or you don't have Direct X 9c installed. Even if you have dx11, you need 9.0c as well (they can both be installed at the same time).

I did. Did you? DirectX9.0c is pointless when you have a later version of DirectX, as all end-user runtime components default to the highest version. Later, more advanced operating systems, such as Windows 7, support switchable graphics. This is a technology which allows you to "assign" a graphics card to run one or more programs. Assuming you have more than one video card (which I do - the piece of crap Intel Integrated Graphics card that comes with most laptops these days, as well as the Radeon HD 6770M), you can switch between the two. Unless you do, Windows 7 will think that all your applications should run on the crappy card (to save power and CPU consumption).
In short, the problem was NOT installing DirectX 9.0c,nor did it have anything to do with getting the latest video driver (although that never hurts to go ahead and do anyway). Moreover, the fact that you are "out of luck" if you want to run the game on a laptop (as ShinsFortress' 5-year-old referenced post suggests) is a myth/lie (provided you have any other video card on your laptop other than the Intel Integrated Graphics card). All I had to do was switch my graphics card from the craptacular Intel Integrated Graphics card to my badass Radeon HD 6770M when running BOTH NWN1 and NWN2 and viola. You do NOT need to run as administrator or any other nonsense (one post said that changing the desktop theme solves the problem).
If anybody needs the answers to where Jimmy Hafa is buried, who shot J.R., or how to solve world hunger...I'll be here all week.

Since you think you know so much, obviously you do not need the help available here, so why don't you just go away now.

Marty, it's nice that you think that about direct x, but you are wrong. Install 9.0c.

kamal_,
Thanks for being polite (or, at the very least politically-correct) in your response (as opposed to, say, Gorath Beta, for example). I appreciate that you think I am wrong, but answer me this...why did it work for me when I did what I did but NOT when I did what you suggested first? [I installed 9.0c as instructed and, after that did NOT work, I uninstalled it and performed the fix described above, which DID work. I was very careful to only change one variable at a time.]
Gorath,
Um, no. I came to this site looking for help. I was open-minded and did as you suggested; nothing. [I DID install 9.0c, as you suggested BEFORE I did the fix that finally worked.] I even tried to be funny about the whole thing after wasting several hours following advice from people like you (who, by the way, are the ones that think they know everything about computers); I am met with "go away" instead of "hey, thanks, dude; now people who want to pull their old games out of the closet and load them on their brand new machines can, after reading your post, only spend 1-2 hours of frustration instead of the 5-6 hours you spent chasing rabbits; that's what this thread is all about - helping people fix their technical problems." The only thing I learned from you is that my attempts to be funny in posts need work (although, I am seriously considering the source, here). If someone else with a new laptop wants to try to install very old games like NWN or NWN2 (and, by the way, 90% will be operating in Windows 7 and, if they are a gamer, 99.99% will have been smart enough to upgrade their video card), then they now have a viable solution.
