I was just going to say how relieved I am that the OP and his supporters don't actually have a position of responsibility in defence or security, until I realised their decayed and degraded sense of moral and patriotic feeling will always disqualify them from anything approaching such.

I don't see the problem in having Shep change the political and military leadership in the Alliance Parliament while preserving its navy/army (if there is anything left after the attack on Earth). For example, my Shep wants to change Council leadership (kill that turian and have it go down in history the Council handled the crisis all wrong), but she has no problems with the races they represent.

The Mass Effect world is a construct. I don't have to live there. And I see precious little about that world, especially the Alliance and humanity, that I consider worth saving.

I came out of Arrival with an absolute hatred of the Alliance. I want them gone, never to rise again. I will do everything in my powe to subvert and undermine them and see they take maximum casualties. I wonder to what extent this will be possible? We could roleplay against Cerberus, but in a very shallow way.

When Hudson put that tweet up my mind went to:

The trial; I think we will get to say things against the Alliance then for sure
James Vega and the VS (and perhaps some crew members) and talking against the Alliance to them, I mean for the VS in ME1 we could shift their views a little bit.

Hackett returns in ME3 so does Anderson: More opportunities there.

Other than that I really don't know where else we get the opportunity to do so.

I do plan to point out issues with the Alliance but if theres a chance to save as many civilians on Earth I will take it;  they shouldn't be punished for the actions of their government IMO.

If this is your excuse, then you don't seem to grasp the concept of role-playing very well.

I don't see why you would want to destroy the entire government or all of humanity just because a few politicians are going to use Shep as a scapegoat.

Just let those same politicians die in the Reaper invasion, and replace them with some actually decent people. Or give them 30 pieces of silver and hang 'em.

You're a fool. You'll damn our entire race and the entire galaxy to the Reapers! I'm not upset about the trial, it's probably just a show to keep the Batarians at bay. They won't execute Shep.

Also, about overthrowing the Alliance... you think all of the colonies will fall in line? If the Alliance falls, **** hits the fan. I can understand reforming it (that's why we have elections), but overthrowing the Alliance is not a smart decision.

The Alliance has already fallen. The Reapers practically wiped it out during the first day. You see those ships falling from the sky? That's Alliance.

They're not going to execute shepard its just a show a one last chance to prove to everyone that the reapers are coming and to appease the batarians. They are not going to hand him over either.

You guys would make awful soldiers. Think of all the lives that would be lost in a war against the batarians. And you're not willing to sacrifice your own life to prevent that? In fact you want to destroy all of society because it wouldn't sacrifice itself for you? Pathetic.

The game isn't going to be very long if they do.

I only hope that RP-ing as disenchanted with the Alliance doesn't equal Cerberus supporters.

RP-ing Cerberus supporters when they are hunting on you is equal to madness. Still I wonder what it mean. Pro-alien, just anti-government or something else?

More like self-destructive. There are a few anti-humans that occasionally pop up on these boards that spout some non-sense about humans being evil and deserving extinction. Sadly, they usually aren't just RPing that perspective, they honestly believe that humanity is evil.

Guilt and self-hate. Often manifests in extremely idealistic people in the process of outgrowing their idealism and replacing it with pragmatism, but still unable to come to terms with the concept of self-interest among groups of people (including themselves), or as it would be in the ME milieu, species.

I doubt it'll be anything more significant than the occasional opportunities to whinge about Cerberus while scuttling around doing TIM's bidding was in ME2.

One of my Shep's is disgruntled with the Alliance staging a coup between ME1 and ME2, and it would be nice to be able to mention that, though. And their policy of rapid expansion while not bothering to defend the colonies properly is pretty dubious, really.

So there is nothing that your government could do, to you or to others, that would make you turn your back on it?

Or that you might find a fictional version of your species/government so infuriating that you don't think they're worth saving in that fictional world?

I personally believe the Alliance needs major reforms and reconstruction after the war, and that is what I'm going to push for if given the chance. If it comes to tearing them down completly, I'll do it if it makes us stronger in the future. The Alliance does somethings right, but a lot of things wrong, and change needs to happen IMO.

I don't think there will be much of an option at all with the entire game seeming to focus on saving Earth. That to me is more self-destructive than not wanting to work with the Alliance. I don't hate humanity, but the idea here seems to be 'it doesn't matter if it's strategically sound, we'll take back Earth no matter what the expense'. Humanity has other planets now, Earth isn't that important. And it's certainly not more important than the home worlds of other species, which seems to be the message these early trailers and info are sending, what with Shepard going to all of these other planets under attack and asking them to leave their worlds to help with Earth.

I don't want to do anything against the Alliance. I just don't want to work for them. I want my Shepard to be able to tell Alliance that just because she's working with them it doesn't mean she's one of them anymore. They turned their back on her. She'll save as many people as she can, that's who she is. But she fights for the galaxy, not just for the humans. And they can take their stupid decals off of her ship.

The geth and salarians, but it's closer to nobody. I'm fond of individuals, and I'm saving the galaxy for their sake, but I don't get the sense that any of the organizations are worth saving.

Well, not really fond of individuals, given that you want a few billion of them to die.
