Can you stop? Seriously. I'm trying to have some actual discussion here. If you want to talk about ponies or roleplay, go do it in the appropriate forum. Don't spam my thread just because I don't think Garrus should be telling me he loves me.

It's almost as if you guys don't even want there to be any sort of discussion.

Just label everyone homophobes and then spam the thread until it gets locked.

I support s/s romances in Mass Effect and even still this crap you guys are doing is ridiculous.

I'm just curious, what do you want?  Do you want people to simply suck it up and accept your logic?  I 've said I don't see a sexuality change as a retcon,  it doesn't change the characters personality.   Heck,  if all the romances are passive and not active you won't notice a change at all accept one possible line of dialogue that activates said romance that you the player must select.

It'll probably be real obvious too... like, Thane obvious.  (Ick)

I just..don't initiate the Garrus romance with my FemShep...simples.

What I *want* is people to just have a civilised discussion about it. Regardless of whichever way their opinion falls. Just to be able to have a discussion with resorting to what this thread has become. Spamming about ponies? Seriously?

The only one I'd consider a retcon would be Jack, since she explicitly said she's not into women.

As for the others who have only expressed interest in women thus far, suddenly going bi? Technically they can. But that's the grey area that's of concern. Some people think just because it hasn't been expressed means that it's possible. Others believe that because it hasnt been expressed means it doesn't exist.

This. If I don't want to romance someone, I don't flirt with them, even the "dreaded" Anders I was able to not have any romance with him.  Does the dialog wheel need a rainbow icon for S/S triggers?

Honestly, did you really think that your attempt to troll the s/s supporters with yet another anti s/s thread would turn out to be a serious discussion? Didn't you notice the last 20 failed attempts?

In respone to your question: Nope.  The rest of your argument dissolves with a handwave.  Your presumptions are unsupported.  Your argument fails.  The product you boxed is useless.

Don't blame us for taking the box and pretending to be robot warriors in it.  It's the most useful part of this thread.

Yeah, you have it easy with the Garrus romance. But have you ever tried playing Manshep? Tali comes on to you without you deciding anything, and you are forced into a position of either rejecting her or accepting her. This was a terrible way to handle her romance. The player should have been the one to initiate the content as Tali showed no indication of interest in ME1, and players who didn't like her wouldn't have had to make the decision of choosing if they wanted to be with her or not.

I propose the wheel to blast out music from the Village People whenever your mouse hovers over a s/s choice.

While I agree with Bocks in thinking that it would be good to add a new character designed with a same-sex romance as part of his character (possibly James Vega), I disagree with the assertion that this character shouldn't come on to Shepard.  FemShep was able to deal with Liara's romantic enquiries even if she didn't reciprocate them; the same should be true of ManShep and Maybe-James.  I honestly think that if Shepard can't find it in himself to turn down a person who suffers from unrequited love in a gracious and sensitive fashion then it reflects badly on Shepard.  Frankly, while Shepard is not perfect, this is not a character flaw that I would ever like to see in him.  It would take away from his character, not add to it.

So I'm a little late to the party, but this is what I don't get.  (Forgive me if this point has already been made.) All the relationships are optional, right?  So what's the big deal?  I'm a lesbian, and when I play my FemShep and the Garrus (or Thane, etc) romance dialogue pops up, I'm all "ew, omg, gross" and I don't select it.  One of the things I love about ME2 is that you're not compelled to choose any one thing.  You're not penalized if you don't pursue a relationship.  I just don't see how additional relationship options will affect your experience.

Then tell me WHERE my argument fails so that I may fix it. WHERE is it that I go wrong?

Seriously, it feels more like I am the one being trolled, here.

The others were failed attempts because people started flame wars and spam.

Exactly like you are intentionally trying to do now.

Maybe a thread might actually survive if people stoped acting like brats and started having a proper discussion.

No...I just have to listen to my flaming gay FemShep flirt with Jacob every damn time she speaks with him.

I'd take dudes hitting on her over that any day...cuz she can just turn them down.

This should be true of all romances, gay or straight anyway. Not a gay issue at all.

Actually, it IS an issue specific to ME3.

The character of Garrus or Kaidan or Jacob or whoever has already been pretty much solidified at this point in the Mass Effect series. Suddenly having them come onto you would be strange. Why wouldn't they have expressed these feelings beforehand? The only logical way to handle a romance like this would be to have the player initiate it himself or herself.

On the other hand, if James tries to come onto Shepard in ME3, then that becomes part of his personality as an impulsive, brave (and gay) man.

Not talking about player initialization, just so we're clear.

For some it's much harder to come out than others. Not everyone is like your Vega example, y'know? Some people ar much subtler with their affection for others. It wouldn't be strange for me at all if say Miranda came onto my FemShep after apparently not showing romantic interest in her for the entirety of ME2. Sometimes people just fall in love. That simple.
