I would have prefered Cerberus to remain a viable renegade option, with the end of ME3 possibly determining the stance of humanity as it goes forward. (either democratic via systems alliance in power or totalitarian and xenophobic via cerberus taking power)

....

Shepard: Hey guys! Can we be friends now?
Reapers: GET IN THE LIQUIFYING POD, MEAT-BAG.

There isnt any reason for Shepard to side with the Reapers. None what so ever.

Joke topic is joke topic.

Why would Shepard side with the very beings that's currently turning Earth into Planet Crispy?

Because they think its "edgy" and "cool", not realising that the rest of the world considers it douchbaggy and lame.

I'm quite sure that there will be such an option - after the giant plot twist where they reveal that they are actually the good guys and that all organic life must be exterminated every 50,000 years or else the universe will explode...or something like that...

They have made it clear that you will be able to resolve the story in virtually any way you want - that should include siding with the reapers - especially since they keep mentioning how they are actually doing something to 'save' organic life.

I actually want this. To be able to walk in Saren shoes, so long that the Reapers provide adequate reason for joining.

I think working with the Reapers would be interesting, but not with Shepard's story.

The Archdemon (and with it the Darkspawn horde) was merely a force of nature, no motivation at all. Siding with the Reapers would be more akin to the Warden siding with Loghain and Anora over Alistair, or (aggresive) Hawke siding against the qunari with another certain someone.

Although not exactly a side with the Reapers option - I would love to see some kind of affect of indoctrination at the highest difficulty setting or something.

You start to find yourself on unsure footing, your actions you take, may not be the actions you believe you are taking. Something along those lines. It would be hard to implement, but would be a crazy awesome gameplay mechanic if people wanted to try it out.

I'm basically against anything that alters gameplay mechanics for a certain difficulty, such an integral part of the story should be available for everyone and not just those who have the fastest reactions.

I think that would go under the definition of stupid evil (even by the standards of renegade shep) given the fates of the morons who tried this before.

I think that could only work in story if it would be the very last decision that Shepard would make before the final battle in the endgame. In that way, the Harbinger in would try to seduce Shepard to switch sides and to become Harbinger´s tool like Saren was the Sovereign´s tool. I think that is doable but the options should be very clear for the player if he can join the Reapers at the verge of the ultimate defeat of the Reapers.

So, the question is how to write the end were Shepard would join the Reapers. It is possible to do but it should cause Shepard´s team mates to turn on him/her. I think it should be kind of question of refusing immortality when Shepard turns down Harbinger´s offer and ultimately kills Harbinger. I think that would be following Joseph Campbell´s the Journey of the Hero as he explained it in "The Hero with a Thousand Faces"(1949).

I think it could be done but it will require very good writing and a logical story line. Also, there should be very drastic consequences if Shepard can make that decision and abandon Earth. I would prefer not to have that option because it will be all-or-nothing for ME 3. Poorly writing and implemented it would make no sense and it would also ruin a good game.

I think you're all being incredibly close-minded.
An endgame decision in the final act (or if its really done well, not a decision) where Shepherd succumbs to indoctrination and joins the reapers would be incredible. Imagine the rp, facing down your LI after you've turned. Perhaps you'll fight off the control just long enough to end up like Saren or maybe even becoming another reaper. Perhaps Harbinger was the Shepherd type hero before the last purge and his failure?

There's some VERY cool possibilities if its a last act situation (IE not that much development time).

Also they can give you the option to use your army to conquer the galaxy after the end of the war and conquer the galaxy, ah no that's Star Wars the Revenge of the Sith.

Anyway, seriously, I don't mind this idea. Selling all the galaxy to the reapers :)

If ME wants to take role-playing to another level, then it would only be logical to add the choice of joining the Reapers on the list.

Of course, joining the Reapers is an option that can't be taken lightly, and must be written incredibly well for it to be believable in any way whatsoever.

Who knows, maybe Shepard can become a Reaper and fight against the Alliance, the geth, the quarians... Wouldn't that fun?

Sounds pretty terrible.

Why the heck would Shep *want* to side with the Reapers? You know, the guys out to wipe out galactic life again? That just sounds stupid, so NO.

We know they like to smash things and turn us in to slushies.

That's a good as motivation as any to kill them.

Join the Reapers, join the Archdemon... I understand join the Sith, but why do some people want the option to join an enemy whose goal is total destruction? It´s even more stupid than taken the bad guys offer in Jade Empire.

Why are so many people thinking our actions in a video game reflect who we are in real life?

Honestly I'm not against this idea Don't make it an obvious choice like a simple dialog option but a series of choices you make in the game screw you up like you roleplay as a shepard who isn't the brightest bulb in the box and so far you've just been getting lucky.
Enough wrong choices and *BAM your indoctronated and your still playing shepard but everything your doing is the oposite from before.
