Not in any real way.  I don't like them, but their presence in my overall party doesn't affect me because I can leave them behind.

And they each force their way into the party in one game.  Tali can be left unrecruited in ME2 and Garrus can be left on the Citadel in ME1.

Ideally they'll give us those options again, but, if not, I'll cope.

If you will just "cope" with every thing they sling at you. Then you're opinion on this is irrelevant.
I much rather have ANYONE except Garrus and Tali. I cannot fathom Bioware's need to give them so much attention.

Why they were chosen over Wrex should be obvious.

In ME2, only for their LM's, so besides two missions, you can go with any squad you like.

I have to cope with a lot of things in ME2 for the experience to be even slightly enjoyable.

The way I see it, BioWare has a lot more problems to deal with than a simple matter of Garrus and Tali taking up space on my ship.

All the other ME2 characters could not be in ME1 because they hadn't been written. All the other ME1 characters look like they will have more importance to the plot than G and possibly T.

Why were they choosen over say.. Wrex and.. whomever i'm missing.

Again, special treatment.

Wrex, Ashley and Kaidan could possibly be dead which would have stuffed up their loyalty and recruitment missions. Liara got plenty of attention IMO.

Hit the nail on the head.

They aren't that important to the story. That is exactly why they are, and should be in the second game, so they can join Shepard on the suicide mission. Bioware has said every squad mate from the second game that can accompany you on the suicide mission is expendable.

Then I miss out on content. I'm getting punished for not linking Garrus/Tali.

Lose/lose situation.

You know you love them. If it was Jack & Grunt who were the popular pair, you'd troll them too. You loooooove them, Zeely, I know you do.

You can be a rebel. You can join the Team Dextro Resistance. The rest of us will wink and chuckle and go along, because everybody knows deep down that they love Lizardbatman and Buckethead.

If Tali and Garrus are dead, then the only content you're missing out on is Tali and Garrus....which you hate.

So....what's the problem?

If you don't like them I fail to understand why you would care about their me3 content.

There is also the possibility of keeping them in one playthrough and killing them in another, then you get the best of both worlds.

Has it actually been confirmed they are permanent squadmates in ME3? I suspect it is highly likely for the popularity reasons but was not aware of confirmation.

It was confirmed that they are permanent...but based on later tweets (C. Norman said not to assume squadmates will work the same way they worked in me1 and me2) we don't actually what that entails in ME3.

Are you insane? even though I HATED TALI. I loved the fortilla level. with the geths, the trial, her dead pa. fun times.

No. I don't meta-game.

I don't think anyone has been confirmed as "permanent" squadmembers, but garrus and tali have been confirmed as possible squadmembers

Look, they're here to stay, just like all the other characters. I don't particularly like Miranda, but you don't see me crying and whining because she's in ME3.

Considering the importance the geth/quarian problem seemingly has in the third game it's highly unlikely Tali would be absent from the game if she survived the collector base.

.@shadowdragon20 We've confirmed James, Liara, Ash/Kaidan, Garrus, and Tali as squad members / main chars in #ME3. More to reveal though.

Oh. I get it. people can whine about s/s relationships until they're blue in the face. but I bring up a good point about fanservice in the game and I need to "shut up".

How about this.

hell no.
