Kaidan, Garrus, and Miranda are the only 3 that I desperately want on my squad in ME3.  I do love all the other squad mates from ME1 and ME2, but extended cameos or having them pop up for a mission or two will satisfy me just fine.

9 times out of 10, my squad is Garrus + Sentinel (even when Shepard is a sentinel, lol).  In ME1, it was Kaidan.  In ME2, it was Miranda.  So even if I have every single squadmate back for ME3, everyone except these 3 will be spending a lot of time staring at the inside of the Normandy anyway.

Garrus-i used him on like every major mission, cause hes like your right hand you just get along with him so well.
Jack-my other practically permanent squadmate, definetly for her biotics (and c'mon her line at the end of miranda's loyalty mission is one of the best in the game).
Tali-need us an engineer yo, and its a plus that shes got some great quips.
Mordin-gilbert and sullivan sequel (PLEASE BIOWARE!!!!!)
Honorable mentions
Liara (femshep's love interest, great biotics, badassbluechick)
Thane (never discount an assassin's usefulness when you need a good scout)
Zaeed (tough, strong, willing to get his hands dirty, never a bad thing on a mission)
Grunt (Wrex has work to do on Tuchanka, and really Grunt needs his itch scratched and i got a few missions that can do just that)

Wrex - I simply liked him more than Grunt

Kasumi - charming, funny and the only one who called Shepard "Shep"

Mordin - would surely love the challenge to find a cure for Shiala
