"Not a squadmate" is not the same as "a minor role". Wrex is an important character in ME2 even if it's a short role. His role in ME3 will be bigger because his plans for the krogan may decide the fate of an entire species.slimshedim wrote...
Screw this, why do boring and dull characters like Ashley or Kaidan get a major role in the game and really interesting characters, like Wrex, just a minor role?

I doubt that figure.
I'd say he survived in the vast majority of games that were imported from ME1 and in the PS3 version you can just straight up choose whether he lives or not.
Although why Bioware decided to have him dead by default for anyone who started fresh in ME2 is beyond me.
I don't think Bioware decided to have him dead by default. I think this was more EA's decision to try and cleanse the franchise (EA's new franchise) of all things ME1, and by extension, Microsoft.
Just my theory as to why everyone that could've died, died.

No, they'll be to busy pandering to Tali fanboys, Garrus fangirls and making both of them bisexual. They've got allot on their plate.
Wouldn't that technically make them Tali fangirls and Garrus fanboys?

That's a really good question, that we're never going to get a good answer to, I suspect.
I kind of think that the real answer is probably that ME's writers were totally taken by surprise that people actually liked Garrus, Tali and Wrex way, way, more than Kaidan and Ashley (and perhaps Liara), that they expected the human characters to be more popular than they were.
I mean, it seems totally and utterly bizarre that, with you guaranteed to have a white human Alliance soldier in your squad in ME3 (Ash or Kai), you're going to get ANOTHER white human Alliance soldier (James Vega). I mean, who even wants that? I don't want to turn this into an anti-Vega thread, but it's nuts. NUTS!
I imagine it's because the writers have "big plans" for these characters which don't work for them if they're squad members, but still, it's pretty bizarre that two characters both much-complained-about for their boring-ness get big starring roles and become SPECTREs and so on, whilst Wrex, beloved by virtually all, gets to be severely sidelined.

Are you kidding? I am so stoked to have Ash back in my squad! She was awesome. Wrex is awesome too, but he has a more important role in the universe than just hanging out with Shepard. Also he could've died in ME1 which must've been a headache to get around. Would've cost way too much to make him a full time squaddie in ME2 when half the time he would've been dead.

Well, that's not a valid point, since either Kaidan or Ashley could also die on Virmire.
I found the default alliance soldier-guys to be rather unimaginative and boring, despite their past. Same with cerberus, even though Jacob is a cool guy and Miranda's....well, being Miranda. I don't want them dead or removed from the game or whatsoever. I just want everyone being able to pick exactly the squadmate he wants to pick, be it the incredibly ugly Thane, verbal diarrhea Mordin (I love Mordin, he's just awesome), helluva Zaeed or Tyrannosaurus Wrex.
It was just disappointing not to have him in ME2 and it certainly be wasted potential in an otherwise awesome game, if they excluded popular characters like Wrex from your team, one more time.
Instead of that other human dude, I'd rather have an Elcor or Hanar, in my team, or even a Vorcha. There are plenty of Humans in the team, already: Badass scarface, a mentally unstable psycho skinhead, a token black (bear in mind I'm not racist - Jacob's just the only black guy in the game/team. You hardly see any blacks, asians or whatnot and the vast majority is white), a sociopathic smug catsuit-wearing clone, a wussy with constant migraine who everyone seems to want to engage in same sex relationships for some strange reasons, a racist cristian poet full of controversy and complexes, a thief commenting on the crew and only has like 5 different lines of text to tell... That's plenty of humas to pick if you ask me.
I'd rather swap all of them for my favorite space lizard.

I wouldn't mind not having Wrex as a squadmate as long as he has a large part in the game. He's really important in the grand scheme of things, so he should have an appropriately large part in the story. Seeing him again in ME2 was nice, but his part was way too small for a Best Sidekick of the Year winner.
True story. I'd still like him permanently in my team and as a compensation for his lackluster role in ME2 he should also have a huge impact on the story!

- Roughly 50% of players imported save games from the first game.
Guess who is dead in non-imported runs
