So it's getting pretty good reviews across the board but is it just me or should this be a GOTY candidate? I haven't seen it mentioned as a GOTY candidate by any major video game blogs/newsites and I think it's a damn shame.

Maybe it's just a case of being up against so many amazing titles this time of year but I feel like it's not getting the industry respect it deserves. It's by far my best gaming experience thus far this year.

Bioware is quickly becoming my favorite developer. I just can't believe they are releasing DA and ME2 in a matter of a few months. So friggen stoked for ME2.

I agree. This year in games hasn't been that great in my eyes. Until,  October rolled around. I liked Borderlands in the window before Dragon Age was released. Shrug, I don't care if the industry praises Dragon Age. I like the game. I can't stop playing it and am staying up way to late. I wasn't even that pumped for Dragon Age. When I first started playing the game I was like meh, it's okay. I kept plodding around and the game grew on me. Now I love the game.

Game of the year? Not sure but definitely RPG of the year...

This game will never be GOTY because of rabid MW2 fanboys and the like have a 3 second attention span.. I mean, I like a shooter as much as the next guy but MW2 has a 2 hour campaign and multiplayer almost identical to MW1. none of that matters though, it is a shoe-in for GOTY much like Titanic was shoe-in for so many awards despite being a trite piece of crap.

To be GOTY Bioware would have to put everything into graphics and make the story 4 hours long.

GOTY means NOTHING.

GOTY requirement is to have a story which can be written onto a napkin.

When crap like halo 2 wins so many awards, you know the game media has gone down hill. No other industry on planet earth, gets it reviews, directly from the same sites that benefit from advertising dolalrs from said games. It's a conflict of interest. Every average game today gets 9.0 - 9.5, games like DAO, sadly get lost my most 12 yr old Call of duty/halo gamers of today, despite being half arsed in comparison.

Times have changed... RPG's are a niche now. I think most people that work for magazines and websites etc, the general gaming media are all the FPS kiddies really. If it doesn't have guns, and isnt moving 100mph, they really don't give a ****.

Dragon Age 100% deserves at least a spot in the running for overall GOTY. Even if we all know MW2 will be handed it.

I hope you're not equating spike tv with the industry :P

That said, looking at my steam friend list, which consists mostly of game developers, is very very satisfying right now :P

I agree. MW2 will steal the thunder even though it's a texture repack of the same game we've been playing since COD4, which was essentially a COD2 mod...

Why would I buy L4D 2, when I got bored of L4D 1 after the first 30 minutes?

In the end, why does the opinion of game fansites matter to YOU? The only opinion that matters to me, is the only one I paid my $50 to and that's Dragon Age. I had the money to buy any of the games that were released this quarter but the only one I've bought is Dragon Age, and consequently I've logged over 100 hours into the game since release. I got my money's worth and then some. I don't care what Ziff Davis, Viacom, or CBS Interactive tells me which game I should be enjoying most. In the end, I know I would only have enjoyed DA:O.

Deus Ex won multiple GOTY if I recall correctly, and deserved every single one. Of course, that was also like 9 years ago.

9 years ago tells the story, back then, we didnt have 100 million dollar advertisingbudgets, and reviewers beingorced to not give games lower thena  certain score, and not allowed to mention CGI times (Im looking at you MGS4). Sites like Gamespot, IGn are nothing mroe then mouthpieces and propaganda for big name publishers.

The game industry media needs a total revamp, or an independant body.

GOTY in today's industry means absolutely nothing about the quality of the game. I was enlightened to this fact after F3 received numerous awards for best writing/story.

Check out some news articles about how well DA:O did on steam and other retailers.

I think the GOTY will be either Assassin's Creed 2 or COD2.

Personally I'd vote for Borderlands with Hearts of Iron 3 being second and DAO being third.

Borderlands? LMAO, lay off the glue, its a decent game not even close to GOTY, cannot hold DA's jock strap, please.

No, this game, and Bioware, are immensely respected among the "industry." I'm putting that in quotes because evoking the word 'industry' is itself far too abstract. What industry? We can't just say "the gaming industry" as there are so many branches of game development with so many different goals.

But among the community and the amorphous sector of the industry interested in either RPGs, single player games or anything Bioware has done before, Dragon Age has been--rightfully--regarded with acclaim.

Spike TV has fans? I didn't know there was crossover appeal for CSI and Japanese gameshows with american voice dubs. Ever since spike TV got rid of TNG it has been dead to me.

DA:O has my vote for game of the year any day.
