The Light / Judge / Scourge of Cania
Hero of Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark. An apprentice adventurer who gets swept along by terrible events when their master is attacked, eventually to become caught in the machinations of the deaded Mephistopheles...

Ah, my mistake then. I never played Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark, so I always assumed you carried over your character from first NWN. Again, apologies.ms_sunlight wrote...
You missed one, and that one's my favourite.

Looking back at all the responses, I'm surprised that you folks rate Revan so highly, as I always found Revan to be bit thin character wise. I felt the Jedi Exile was a better protagonist for the KOTOR games, but alas, The Sith Lords isn't a Bioware game, so there.
My personal choice for best protagonist would be the Warden, mostly because of the multiple choice of races and backgrounds that gave variety to your playthroughs.

2. The Scourge of Cania. Especialy my womanly chaotic good half orc swordmistress.
3. The Grey Warden. Especialy my manly dwarven rogue.
4. Shepard. Especialy my manly paragon soldier.

Revan's a lot of fun to play and has a great plot twist attached; I think people are attached to "their" Revan. How is Revan thinner in character than the Hero of Neverwinter, who is a completely blank slate?

Hawke
Warden (Cousland)
I barely remember Jade Empire, and I never played any of the other BW games.

I agree with you on the Neverwinter lead, but beyond the twist, what's there that's so impressive with Revan as a character? All we know of Revan is that he/she was a famed Jedi Knight who singehandedly turned back the invading Mandalorians and then turned to the Dark Side when he/she discovered the Star Forge. That's Revan's backstory neatly summed up in one sentence, and the game doesn't give anything beyond that. The lack of depth is the main reason why Revan doesn't rate highly for me as a character.ms_sunlight wrote...

2. Hawke
3. Revan
4. Warden
5. Spirit Monk
6. Shepard
I've only played NWN for about 5 minutes, and most of that was character creation.

Well if you're willing to simplify it like that then you can do the same for all of the characters, you did as much in the OP.horacethegrey wrote...

That's the problem. You can simplify Revan like that. There's not much to Revan's past that the game expands upon besides the basic story of his/her heroic triumph and eventual fall. The other Bioware protagonists (aside from the NWN hero) at least have backgrounds that their respective games explore on occasion, some of which are integral to the overall plot. There are a lot of intimate details to them, whereas Revan's story is painted in broad strokes. It's one of the little quibbles I have with the original KOTOR.nerdage wrote...Well if you're willing to simplify it like that then you can do the same for all of the characters, you did as much in the OP.

Hero of Neverwinter.
Hawke.
Shepherd - the man who fishes for lost souls and brings them to Christ. What? He doesn't do that? Damn it! I've been played ME wrong then!

What about Malak's betrayal? Or the council wiping your memories and manipulating you? These are parts of Revan's past that are crucial to the main story, explored in as detailed a way as you can really expect. Plus, practically the whole game is the player retracing Sith Revan's footsteps when (s)he was searching for the star forge. I'd say Revan's up there with the Bhaalspawn and Spirit Monk as one of the characters who are integral to the story, without them the stories just wouldn't work, whereas Shepard, Hawke, and the Warden are just people who happen to be in the right place at the right time.horacethegrey wrote...

I'll grant you Revan's history with Malak and the Star Forge are integral to the plot of KOTOR, but that still doesn't change the fact that Revan's pretty much a bland character. Most of the interesting bits of the game come from your companions, who each have a rich backstory and motivation behind them.nerdage wrote...
