The character I enjoyed play the most is definitely Revan. Out of all of BioWare's games, you have the most flexibility with Revan, he/she could be basically anyone you wanted. Creating a history for your character to believe was real and having it shattered on the Leviathan is my favorite moment of SW: KotOR.

I'd probably have to go with the warden. My first playthrough with a female Elf Mage i really put a lot of thought into what i wanted her to be and how she would react to each type of person and party member. I thought the Mage origin was quite cool the backstory of the Circle Tower was interesting and there was even a nice plot twist at the end of it. I also like the history of the Grey Wardens and the sacrifice they make so it just made the protagonists story more interesting as they went from a Mage apprentice to a Grey Warden ready to make a great sacrifice to being a hero. And that's what a good protagnist should do in a story they start in one place and take a journey in the story where they grow and change and they finish in a whole new place.

My last and favorite character that I made in DA:O was a female elf mage. Good choice for your first character imo, makes for a great defensive, withdrawn, self-preserving character that's afraid of what other people will say and do which is what I chose. And mage is the best Origin in DA:O too. Only thing I didn't like about it was that you had to reveal your secret to the First Echanter, although thankfully that wasn't out of character for my elf mage.

I think i'd agree that it's a good first choice. I often play mages anyway since i prefer that defensive role covering Archers and giving buffs and heals to the frontline fighters less chance of getting killed as often too if you're not used to the way the game is played picking a Warrior that is always in the thick of the fighting is not usually a good start.

Paragon FemShep. Most of Shep's lines/action are gender-neutral, so FemShep comes off as a strong female protagonist without being a mash-up of all of the bad writing possibilities described here, which is sadly the more common route for games to take with female protagonists. See also: http://www.mevio.com...doing-hawpcasts

It's a little surprising, because I generally don't think female characters are Bioware's strong suit.

Bhaalspawn and Revan, hands down. I thought that they had the two best stories, and were the most fun to play.

Revan's a lot of fun to play and has a great plot twist attached; I think people are attached to "their" Revan.  How is Revan thinner in character than the Hero of Neverwinter, who is a completely blank slate?

I agree with you on the Neverwinter lead, but beyond the twist, what's there that's so impressive with Revan as a character? All we know of Revan is that he/she was a famed Jedi Knight who singehandedly turned back the invading Mandalorians and then turned to the Dark Side when he/she discovered the Star Forge. That's Revan's backstory neatly summed up in one sentence, and the game doesn't give anything beyond that. The lack of depth is the main reason why Revan doesn't rate highly for me as a character.

You might be interested to read this:

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Revan

(Note that it uses the official Star Wars 'canon' Revan who is male and light sided - which shouldn't deter you from all of the rest of his/her history).

Partly because of the fact that Revan is a part of the Star Wars universe, Revan has a great deal more story attached to him/her than any other Bioware protagonist ever created.  Further, by the looks of things, with TOR, Revan's (canon) story is about to be expanded again immensely.

Outside of that however, I loved playing as Revan because of who he/she was.  Loved, loved, loved the twist in the game, and the history with Malak and Bastila - then the hinting in KOTOR 2 that Revan was never evil but did what was necessary to stop the true Sith.

Could just be me though Image IPB

Revan was what I made him/her to be - but was so much more at the same time.

Well, to be honest, the same could be said for just about every Bioware protagonist. None of them have a whole lot of backstory in order to allow people to RPG certain aspects of the character.

Warden, mainly due to your background being played and revisiting the ppl involved later in the game (well bar the Dalish and to a lesser extent the Human Noble)

"My" version of Shepard is my favorite Bioware character.
That's what I love about Mass Effect. There is no "official" canon, just your canon.

I would say the Bhaalspawn but considering that he was completely overshadowed by Irenicus in BG2 it is a hard one to call. However out of all Bioware's protagonists the Bhaalspawn was the most interesting so I gotta give it to him.

That being said however, Nameless One > All.

Agreed. Funny you don't create the Nameless One yet people feel it's less of an RPG because you don't make your toon.

Although I find him less replayable because I really prefer one character to all the others I've tried. I can't imagine playing without a high INT/WIS character. I'll probably play with the same TNO next time I play PS:T.
