Hey all,

You may remember me as the person who put together the huge 30 voice actor Mass Effect interview last year.
http://thegaminglibe...rview-part-one/

Recently we did a competition with Michael Beattie, voice actor for Mordin Solus, and while it all went quite well we started to pick up on comments from fans speculating that it wasn't his voice we heard during the E3 gameplay footage. Well, we contacted Michael in repsonse to this speculation by the fans. I'll let his comment speak for itself...

Thoughts?

Hearing this makes me sad =( Mordin in ME2 was awesome in every way, now he is that little bit less awesome. However though, the voice in that video is still similiar to mordins original voice after I went and listened to it again. New VO is pretty good =D

Never mind. Unconfirmed story is not "official"

You seem to be jumping the gun there in the article title. From what we know, pretty much every voice in the E3 trailer was a placeholder. BioWare is far from finished with the VO recording sessions - if I had to make a wild guess based solely on Twitter and the forum comments of devs, somewhere in the first third or so - and voice acting usually can't be done before level design is finished, which in plenty of cases it isn't.

So, yeah, there's nothing stopping the Professor from being voiced by Beattie again in ME3 at the moment - and considering the extremely warm reception both he and the character got, I can't imagine BioWare would cut the cord on their own end!

This topic took the subforum by storm around E3 and subsided about a day later when everybody calmed down and remembered that there's still nine months of dev time left.

Not quite. The article says Michael Beattie is not reprising his VA role. Since we pretty much know Mordin will make a speaking appearance, this would mean that another VA has been cast for the role. Thus the role of Mordin has been recast.

Well, I'm sure if there's a strong fan reaction to this news it may wake Bioware up a little.

You mean the orginal voice actor doesn't return, but character does with some other voice actor?

Well, I wouldn't say he has been recast, I think the article is taking some liberties with the facts as they stand. We do know that Mark Meer did Mordin's voice for the ME3 demo, most likely as a placeholder so they could show that particular demo at E3.

It's possible that BioWare just haven't got round to contacting Michael yet. It would be a shame if they did go with someone else, Michael's VO for Mordin in ME2 was stellar!

I don't have this avatar without a reason so it would suck if they change the voice.
Mordin just worked as a character and the voice acting was great.

I sure hope daqs is right.

I would be very, very upset if Mordin did not have the same voice actor. He did an amazing job in ME2, and I knew it wasn't his voice in the ME3 demo.

I will say that we talked with Michael behind the scenes before asking him for an official statement. Put it this way- we're not taking any liberties with what we wrote. I'm sure Michael agrees with us.

I too hope he can return though. It's a great shame.

What's surprising to me is he said he hasn't even been contracted to do the voice again. With this game originally scheduled to ship around the holidays, and they haven't even been in contact with their voice actors, they must have been extremely behind schedule.

I'm not sure how long the "but they still have X months..." excuse will hold.

I honestly didn't notice the change in voice, so kudos to Meer for doing place holder in the demo. But if the original voice actor won't reprise his role, it will be disappointing at least. Mordin is one of the few characters in ME2 that was actually interesting and well written.

But I'm gonna take a wait-and-see approach on this one.

This is a big mistake. Even though it may only be for a cameo it would be like recasting Chris Nolan's "Joker". You just don't do it.

Fair enough, it's just not clear from the article that he has definitely been recast.

By the way, I know fans have speculated about this for some time now but has there been a petition online yet about it?

If so, I'd love to link it in at the end of the article.

Many thanks!

at the very least we should ask for a definitive confirmation about it via twitter or something.

That's a great shame, Mordin's VO actor was one of the better ones in ME2, I greatly enjoyed Mordin's singing. Let's not make any assumptions just yet however. The game does still have a while to go after all.

So what are the reasons for recasting Mordin? Why change the voice actor for no reason? He did a great job and while I am not a die hard Mordin fanboy I find this decision very strange.

That sucks. Mordin had some good voice acting in ME2. I hope his new one can do just as well.

First Anders, now Mordin.
Saddest thing is that Beattie himself has said he would love to voice him agian.
Wtf is wrong with you Bioware? If you can bring Keener for Garrus back, why do you refuse Beattie?
