I hope this is false. I would be very upset if Mordin was recast, especially if he ended up with that voice from the demo; it was like someone ripped out his soul, his voice acting is such a crucial part of his character.

My guess is that larger roles like key npc's and squadmates are being recorded first, with minor npc's and cameos following in the later stages of production.

I hope you're right. If so that's good news for Garrus and Joker, since Brandon Keener was recording back in April and Seth Green posted on his twitter that he was recording like a month ago.

Didn't Keith David say the same thing a few months before ME2 came out? He was still in the cast as Anderson. They probably just don't record voices for more minor roles until the game is closer to its release date.

This is the interview:
www.gamespot.com/xbox360/rpg/mass-effect-2/news/6216758/modern-warfare-2s-keith-david-talks-voice-acting

Note the date: Sept. 3 2009, a little over 4 and a half months before Mass Effect 2 came out.

Near the bottom, after the parts about MW2 and Halo 3, they ask him about ME2 and he says that Bioware hadn't contacted him yet.

Calm down.

Yeah some people seriously overreacting over this... sheesh.

Got a whole 6 or so months left of Gameplay dev for them to contact him and get him in to do his lines.

*puts on scouser wig*
Eh, calm down, calm down

They've still got a while, so I wouldn't worry just yet. At the same time I would really hate it if Beattie didn't do the voice for Mordin.

Besides, I had heard that the voice in the E3 footage was by Mark Meer, presumably standing in for Beattie.

Let's all remember that Thane in the E3 demo of ME2 was not Keythe Farley. Some voices are recorded later during production.

Wrex's voice in the ME3 demo was also a placeholder. A couple of days later a dev tweeted that everyone's favourite krogan had started recording. I assume everyone's favourite krogan is Wrex.

Well, I wouldn't say he has been recast, I think the article is taking some liberties with the facts as they stand. We do know that Mark Meer did Mordin's voice for the ME3 demo, most likely as a placeholder so they could show that particular demo at E3.

It's possible that BioWare just haven't got round to contacting Michael yet. It would be a shame if they did go with someone else, Michael's VO for Mordin in ME2 was stellar!

I think Meer did a pretty good job sounding like Mordin. I was impressed. That said I'd rather the original VA.

Meer is really talented. Shepard's generally bland, neutral tone is how Meer tries to make paragon & renegade lines sound like they consistently come from one person. That, and Meer does villains or colourfull characters way better.

Like the Elf Warden.

hmm well, I'll wait and see what hapens. ME3 is still very far from release so anythng could happen. I wouldn't like a new VO, but as long as they sounded enough like the original I could live with it.

I think he does a fantasic job as Male Shep.

He doesn't over emote, which actually adds some authenticity to the character. His no nonsense straight to the point voice acting reminds me a lot of some Staff NCOs and Mustangs (Officers who were prior enlisted) that I knew while I was in the Marines.

I think I share the sentiments of most people in this thread: ME3 would be Ruined Forever if Mordin wasn't Mordin anymore, but since it's fairly common to yank in VAs at the last minute, I'm not going to get my panties in a twist about it. I didn't notice Mordin had a different VA for the demo, but it DID seem he had less "soul" in his lines (no offense, Mark, you're great otherwise).

Anyway, this happened to me with StarCraft 2: In an early demo, they had somebody else do the voice of Jim Raynor and it just didn't sound right. I was worried about it until I saw a trailer for the game very close to release, and lo and behold, the Old Raynor was back. And he's the goddamn main charcter! On the flip side, another major character, Zeratul, got a new voice, but that's because the old actor died. The new VA was also the voice of Saren apparently (and Saren's voice was awesome), and he does a good job, but I still like the old one better. Gave the character a different flavor, you know?

Bottom line: Don't fix what ain't broken, since players take comfort in the familiar and grow very attached to the cast of Mass Effect. However, it is not time to panic. Yet.

Huh, what!? D'aww...

But, in all honesty, I didn't notice in the E3 demo, so they did a good job re-casting him.

I hope this changes. Mordin is my best bro from ME2. Out of all the things in ME3, this would be the only disappointing one. Like really disappointing.

Starcraft 2 was weird. They announced a new voice for Raynor and the old voice reprising her role as Kerrigan. When the game launched the old voice for Raynor had been contacted to reprise his role and Kerrigan had been recast. It bugged the heck out of me and I never even played Starcraft 1.

Tricia Helfer was recording a while ago too, so plenty of EDI once again hopefully. ^_^

In other news:
*points anyone who hasn't seen it to the interview with Keith David pre-ME2 post for perspective and calm*

First off, play SC1.  It's and oldie but goodie and you can get it for dirt cheap.

Secondly, this demonstrates again that nothing is set in stone until the game ships.  A lot of content was hyped up for ME1 that never made it (Caleston was supposed to be a hub world, you were going to be able to customize the Mako, etc), and the same goes for ME2 (there would have been significantly more Legion).  While the examples I provided only deal with stuff that has been cut out, it goes both ways.

Personally, I'm waiting until I can play the demo before I get myself really worked up about it.

Oh, I agree with you. Hale is either hugging puppies or drowning them, and switching between the two makes her sound like she misplaced her meds instead of just got pissed off, but I wanted to avoid baiting. Which maybe I just did. Meh.

I think the writer on that site is overreacting a bit much.

It would indeed suck, if Mordin's voice actor did not return. But Jack Wall being replaced by Clint Mansell also has him worrying?

In the words of John McEnroe,

The article I wrote (linked in on the Mordin article) explains my feelings on replacing Jack Wall. I will simply say that some of us fans would have preferred Jacks vision to have been completed rather than to have been aborted two thirds of the way through. Sorry, it's just how I feel. Mansell is a superb talent and I'm quite a big fan of him (in particular the soundtrack to The Fountain) but I think it would have been best if Jack was a part of it.

But then again, this is merely a trend it seems. I thought the ME2 team was perfect but I guess Bioware like messing with a good thing. Oh well. Just my opinion, sorry if we don't see eye to eye.

I really don't see why would they dump Mordin's VA, unless it's Michael Beattie choice.

Voice Acting hasn't started for all of the major characters. And it makes sense, even if the deadline was still the holidays.

Nope. Ali Hillis voiced Liara. Ginny was the lead voice director on Mass Effect 1 and 2. Lovely lady!

In fact, when I interviewed the cast many of them praised her role during both games.

Id like to say that Wall decided to stop, it wasnt Bioware replacing him.

I don't want to sound mean or anything, but a journalist should research better before saying that Jack Wall was "replaced".
