So ... did it ever happen? Just curious if or when it does, how will we know without running to this forum to check every other day. Where will it be annouced that there is a new patch for DAO?

Technically you don't need an announcement. It takes less time (I think) to go to http://social.biowar...page/da-patches which is a mouse move and a single click from the main page http://social.biowar...m/user_home.php or whatever page within this site you arrive at, than it does to trawl a forum.

There was an update in the solutions round-up, but to summarize, patch 1.05 is still in beta testing. The initial beta resolved all known DLC authorization issues, but exacerbated issues with increasing load times by quite a bit. Programmers are now going through the patch line by line and comparing it to old patches to try to find the cause of the increasing load times. This is a time-consuming process, but may finally provide a solution to what many have presumed were memory leaks causing increasing load times the longer the game ran.
