A Brewing Conspiracy: Missed talking to Anders at the ceremony, so... will this storyline/quest ever start?

see title. I'm now way past the fealty ceremony in Awakening.

(I already completed one playthrough where I talked to Anders, but the second time I didn't notice any plot marker on Anders (or anyone else) at the fealty ceremony, so I didn't talk to him...)

Storywise, it would make sense for the conspiracy to go ahead without Anders telling me about it, but does this actually work that way?

The conspiracy can start differently depending on how you handled Lord Eddlebreck kneeling before you. If Ser Tamra talked to you during the ceremony then the quest is on. Basically, if you persuade the nobles about having differences but working together Ser Tamra will be one to give you the quest, otherwise it will be Anders.

Yes, thanks. But as I said, I'm now way beyond the ceremony, and nothing has happened (yet).

So I take it there won't be any conspiracy this time around...

Oh, did you by chance select the option to take hostages? Because that option will kill the conspiracy before it even starts.

Of course, it's also possible you ended the ceremony before getting the chance to talk to either Anders or Ser Tamra, missing out on the quest. Or your game might have glitched... :?

I never liked that quest...
Depending on your choices you can kill some of them, but you are never allowed to accuse a specific bann, while I know that woman from Amaranthine was in the sacks with father Howe. I would have loved to take her titles, possesions away from her and kick her out in the gutter were she belongs.

Yes, that's what I meant. And what I did. So, the quest won't start. No conspiracy.

How far are you into Awakening? It's possible that you could start this questline an hour or so into it, so if you were to start over, you wouldn't have to replay too much, though I'm sure you don't want to restart if you can help it.

Well, maybe you'll be lucky and find a certain bann & a number of antivans waiting in the throne room when you least expect it...   :bandit:

Since that happens when you choose to ignore the conspiracy, it should logically happen despite not being aware of it at all. However, I wonder if Bioware made it this way... That level of realism would make me love DA even more!

But I suppose the only option for you is to wait, the assassination attempt happens right after "The peasant revoution," which only happens after 2/3 main quests...

The assassination attempt itself isn't too impressive, but Varel takes an arrow for you; AND you get to chop of Esmerelle's head!  :P

I'm sure you have to actually start the quest for the assassination attept to take place later. You can choose to ignore the "threat", but I'm sure you have to actually choose that option with the quest active. I could be wrong. Hopefully Anders will be nice and offer this quest at some point.

It is quite mind-blowing how Esmerelle and co. think that they can actually kill the warden commander who also just defeated the blight. At least bring a few mages to the party, or a desire demon or two. You don't kill the warden commander with a bunch of nobles waving pointy sticks in the air.

It would be neat (and of course logical) but I'm not holding my breath too much... No, I'm not going back for it. I'd have probably handled it the same way as last time (Dark Wolf) anyway... Although it would've been tempting to have my Warden ambushed for a change...

Yes, foes are stupid. "And they attack you voluntarily?" But, as they write in tvtropes:

"A warden importing his or her level-capped character into Awakening will quickly face ordinary highwaymen so powerful a handful of them could have defeated the Archdemon and taken over the empire. You'll also find the local militia in Amaranthine could wipe the floor with any group of adversaries in the original game. No wonder Howe's men overcame Highever so easily!"

Just for the record, the game IS competely logical in that matter: If you fail to talk to Anders or Bann Whatshername, you DO get the ambush, as I just found out...!

That's nice to see.  I guess getting the quest activated just gives you the means to avoid the ambush.

Usually, I start the quest, but pick the option to wait and see what happens.  When I run into the dark wolf, I attempt to arrest him, so I can fight and kill them (they attack first).  How dare he try to steal my warden's identity as the dark wolf!
