I have been reading Bioware's forums for longer than I can rember and posting on them for almost five years. In all that time I have never made an "OMG!@!@! U R ruining your game!#!" post. I have loved Bioware games all the way back to Baldur's Gate and I trust that they know what they are doing. That is until yesterday when I saw a picture of Garrus's skill page and it had a DAO/DA2 style approval bar in it.

http://social.biowar...index/7625709/7

Please tell me that this is anything other than a DA like approval bar. That system is just horrible. It takes camaraderie and friendship, something that should be subtle and naturally develop over the game, and makes it overly obvious, clumsy and just plan feel fake and unnatural.

How ridiculous is it that after every conversation all your team members give you scores like +3 or -2 as if they were a panael of olympic judges holding up score cards. How crazy is it to take the friendship you have built up with Garrus over the last 2 games and then breaking that bond of friendship down to a simple numerical value for the 3rd game.

Just apply that system to your own life to see how much it trivializes your relationships. I'll try it for myself. I love my wife at a 95, my dog at 70 and my mother in law at a 45. Oh wait my mother in law just baked some cookies she get a +5 and is now a 50. Wait, my dog just peed on the floor so -8 and so he is now just a 62. Yes what a wondeful system that just feels to natural.

On a closing note I am not against decsions you make upsetting team members even big ones that might make some one leave the team. I love stuff like that. I just don't like that system.

...it's a paragon/renegade bar. Which most likely will not be in the final version. Calm down.

Edit: Look who else has one.

So yep, clearly a p/r bar, not an approval bar.

There is no approval system. That bar only applies to Shepard.

That's the new paragon/renegade bar unless I'm looking at the wrong thing.
Yep it is. I doubt squadmates will have it in the final game though.

It looks just like the friendship/rivalry bar from DA2. But yes I really hope it is something different like you can now influence your team into becoming more paragon or renegade.

That bar will not be on the squad member screens. They simply reused the Shepard screen for the squad in the demo but it won't be there once its live.

Eh? I wouldn't like that at all, it worked in Kotor 2 seeing as you influenced your team through the force, but it wouldn't work here as all the characters are strong-willed and generally stick to their viewpoints. It would also make them look malleable.

As I said, they are likely just placeholder, I doubt they'll be in the final product.

Found it weird that people had problems with that bar, I mean whose to say paragon and renegade points won't still be separate?

I mean it looks to me that the only way that bar would work is if they remain separate and the paragon and renegade both work the same as they have done, with the paragon and renegade both filling up as your make decisions.

Never played the dragon age games, so I don't know what an approval rating is but I've never heard such a thing mentioned or shown in relation to mass effect 3.

I can't find the exact post, but it's been confirmed by bioware that the P/R bar will only apply to Shepard as it has for the past 2 games. The UI isn't completely finished yet so I guess it was kind of overlooked and the P/R bar ended up showing on squadmates' screens.

It would be pretty cool if the different races had some sort of approval mechanism that needed a certain threshhold before they would put their forces under shep's command. I mean sure doing a "loyalty" mission is something that should be worth a lot but if you did a number of other things that race disaproved of, and they could reasonably find out, it should come back and bite you.

The approval system from DA is different but the games are different so that's to be expected, in DA you could actually influence some of the characters and there future outlook on life (Lelliana, Allister) and was affected by the decisions that the player made, do something that the character approves of you gain, if they disapprove you loose which makes sense, If i went round to a friends house and he was torturing kittens i'd be re-assessing that friendship

ME1 & ME2 didn't really have that, some of the characters did have choices that you made for them but it didn't change the character itself and other than a bit of dialogue there was no real reaction to how we solved a mission.

So for them to implement DA approval and it not suck they'd have to implement DA shapeable characters

The Paragon/Renegade bars seen on Squadmates has been confirmed to not be there in the final version. I'll close this so word gets out, but you can open a new thread talking about IF you'd like approval systems from squadmates, etc.
