So.  I was playing ME2 the other day when my computer overheated and shut itself off so it wouldn't melt anything important.  My fault for forgetting to bring along my laptop fan/stand, but I was travelling and that thing's damn bulky.  Anyway, when I booted it back up, I discovered that all my achievements had been wiped.  This chaps my ass because I had unlocked all but one, which I was about half a playthrough away from getting.

Now, I know achievements aren't that important, and in ME2 they're pretty damn easy to get, but I sadfaced because they make me feel proud of myself and, well, bonus powers are kind of sort of attached to them. And I like my bonus powers.

The problem here is that achievements are kept on a save file that is not attached to your regular in-game saves, one that does not back itself up.  I should be happy that all my other files are okay, and I am, but please, in the future, an auto-backup feature for this out-of-game file would really save time and frustration.  Or something.  After all, I can back up my own files manually (story progression, characters, etc), but this achievement thing?  That takes some digging, and some people (like me), don't have the foresight or technological know-how to fish it out and back it up ourselves.

Thanks, dudes.

Yeah, losing achievements means you have to do a lot more planet scanning when you next play. Other than that I wouldn't worry about it.
