I have just finished playing Mass Effect (The first one). Since I was running it on windows 7, it seemed to have a problem configuring. It just would say that it stopped working and windows is trying to salve the problem, blah, blah, blah. So I just ran it .exe, which seemed to work fine as long as I ran it .exe. Although it would not configure when I ran it that way. I'm definitally interested in buying Mass Effect 2, but I read somewhere that you need to configure the game to be able to transport characters from your other game. Is this true? If so, can anyone help me?

1) Please register the game on the forums. This is not an accusation, but given the spate of users with illegally downloaded copies coming to the forums asking for help, forum registration is the only way we can be sure we are dealing with a legit copy. Illegally downloaded copies include hacked and modified files which could be either corrupt, or full of malware. Once its registered, we will be happy to help. Forums Registration here;

2) Please post a full problem report as per this thread: http://social.biowar...6/index/4795299

ME1 dates too far back for the Social Forums. It used to be registered with the old "Legacy" forums, which are suspended after a security breach two weeks ago.

I got to the "blah blah blah" part of your question, and stopped reading. If ME1 configuration was crashing on you, it wasbecause you were eunpatched, not erunnin as admin, not running in XP compatibility mode, or a horde of other possible reasons which we cannot tell if you dont post a proper error report (in the ME1 forum).
ME2 could have the same problem, if you dont patch, if you dont run as admin, if you dont run in XP compatibility mode, or a host of other possible reasons.

Yeah, a jerk whos game works perfectly, because I spent the time and effort learning about the technology upon which I rely for my entertaniment.

You're a fool, for failing to read the "Read First", "How To" and "Tech FAQ" threads. For failing to realise that games do sometimes come out with bugs, and patches do get writen for them to solve problems like what you are experiencing. A fool for coming tinto a tech thread thinking a "blah blah blah" statement will illicit a positive response when we need as much information as possible in order to help troubleshoot YOUR problem.

If you dont like what you find in the forums, feel free to sod off and deal with EA support. They provide the official tech support for the gamem, and thus are paid to put up with a gross ignoramus such as yourself.

Good day.

You do indeed need to use the configuration utility of ME2 to locate your save folders. However, I believe it's possible to manually move your saves to a folder that ME2 automatically reads.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit and don't have any problems with the configuration utility, except for ME1 where I have to run in XP mode to be able to see and use the repair button.
